Northern Ire, Scot + Eng (Land)

Hi friends! Happy Hump Day! Continuing with my previous post, today I want to talk about my trip to Europe with my family this Holiday season. However, this time I want to talk about a place that needs a whole post on its own: the United Kingdom. I’ve been a fan of the UK ever since I was a little kid, especially because of my fandom with Harry Potter and the Harry Potter series. Besides, I’ve been a fan of British fashion for years (Burberry is one of my absolute favorite brands), and I’ve really liked its history, the Royal Family, Corgis, and everything UK related. I’ve always wanted to visit, and finally I had the chance to visit the Great Britain this year. There were three different countries that I went to: Northern Ireland, Scotland, and England, each having its own flare and its own sense of style and traditions. Today I want to cover what I did in these beautiful countries and what you can do if you find yourself here in the near future.

The first country I’m going to talk about is Northern Ireland. This country hadn’t been in my bucket list originally, but it came to my attention after I started watching the TV series Game of Thrones. You see, part of this series is shot in the outskirts of Belfast, Northern Ireland’s capital, so when my family and I were planning the trip we decided to stop by here and take one of the Game of Thrones tours. This was an amazing experience! Not only were we able to see the actual locations where they shot some of the most iconic scenes of the acclaimed TV series, you could also be a part of one by practicing some archery and by taking pictures in the spots where Bran fell off from the Winterfell tower, for instance (I know, spoiler alert, but that’s like the first episode). Overall a really cool place to check out.

Then we were headed towards Scotland, which was part of the bucket list. One of the cities I’ve always wanted to visit is the Scottish capital of Edinburgh. My first impression of this city was that it was very old, but it also holds a lot of history, culture, and is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever seen. With the main attraction being Edinburgh Castle, sitting on top of the hill downtown, Edinburgh is a marvelous gem not only in the UK, but in the whole European Union. Definitely one of my favorite places during the whole trip. Also in Scotland we took a tour to Stirling Castle, which was home to the King and Queen of Scotland during the years of the Scottish renaissance, and we were surprised to find most of the place covered in snow. Overall we had an amazing time in Scotland, and I can’t wait to go back in the summer because the weather didn’t allow us to go very far north.

Finally our trip ended up taking us to London, which I’ve always been a great fan of even though I had never been there. There’s just something about the British capital that is so captivating, how modern and beautiful it looks but also it holds a lot of history, and the views of the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, and of course the Big Ben, contrast with newer buildings such as the London Eye, the Bullet, or even the Spire. It was also in London that we took a tour through southern England visiting three main attractions: Windsor Castle, the queen’s second home, Stonehenge, world heritage and wonder, and the Roman city of Bath. All of these were exquisite to see and one of the trip’s highlights was being able to take a photo of Stonehenge at sunset.

For my trip to the United Kingdom, I had to be prepared for all sorts of weather. Being it such a large, diverse country, we went from cold, damp days in Northern Ireland, to extreme cold and snow in the frozen Scotland, to milder, wet days in London and its surroundings. For this, my Superdry jacket was once again super handy, with the option of pairing it with the vest to make it a bit warmer. I also wore a pair of double-sided pants from J. Crew which have corduroy on the outer layer and flannel on the inside. These are one of my warmest pants and they held really well in the coldest areas. As for London and the rest of southern England, just a pair of jeans from Zara with a warm, wool sweater from Carolina Herrera and a button-down sufficed. As an outer layer, I was wearing my Club Monaco camel coat and for the shoes it was between the Sperry water chukkas and the Lacrosse duck boots. What do you guys think? Another one of my highlights on this trip was being able to take a photo at King’s Cross station at Platform 9 3/4. Of course I had to wear my new Gryffindor Scottish wool scarf that matches what the actors wore in the movie!

¡Hola amigos! ¡Feliz miércoles! Continuando con el post anterior, hoy quisiera seguir hablando acerca de mi más reciente viaje a Europa con mi familia esta temporada decembrina, pero esta vez quisiera hablar sobre un lugar que necesita todo un post entero: el Reino Unido. He sido fan del Reino Unido desde que era un niño pequeño, especialmente por mi afición hacia Harry Potter y a los libros de Harry Potter. Además, he sido fanático de la moda inglesa por varios años (Burberry es de mis marcas favoritas), y realmente me gusta mucho su historia, la familia real, los Corgis y cualquier cosa relacionada con el Reino. Siempre había querido visitar y, finalmente, tuve la oportunidad de ir a la Gran Bretaña este año. Hay tres países diferentes que pudimos visitar: Irlanda del Norte, Escocia e Inglaterra, teniendo cada uno su propio colorido y sentido del estilo y tradiciones. Hoy quisiera platicarles qué hice en estos hermosos países y qué es lo que ustedes también pueden hacer si se encuentran aquí en el futuro próximo.

El primer país del que quisiera hablar es Irlanda del Norte. Originalmente este país no se encontraba en mi lista de países por visitar, pero más recientemente ha sido de mi atención porque empecé a ver la serie de TV Game of Thrones. Verán, parte de esta serie esta grabada en las afueras de Belfast, la capital de Irlanda del Norte, así que cuando mi familia y yo empezamos a planear este viaje decidimos hacer una parada aquí para hacer uno de los tours de Game of Thrones. ¡Esta fue una experiencia increíble! No solamente pudimos ver las locaciones reales en donde grabaron algunas de las escenas más icónicas de esta aclamada serie, sino que también uno puede ser parte de ella al poder practicar arquería o al dejarte tomar una foto en donde Bran se cayó de la Torre de Winterfell, por ejemplo (lo sé, spoiler alert, aunque esto sucede en el primer capítulo).

Después emprendimos nuestro viaje a Escocia, el cual sí se encontraba en mi lista de países por visitar. Una de las ciudades a las que siempre he querido ir es a la capital escocesa de Edimburgo. Mi primera impresión de la ciudad es que estaba demasiado vieja, pero que además tiene muchísima historia, cultura y resultó ser una de las ciudades más bellas que he visto en mi vida. Siendo el castillo de Edimburgo su atracción principal, el cual se encuentra situado sobre una colina en el centro de la ciudad, Edimburgo es una joya maravillosa no sólo del Reino Unido, sino de toda la Unión Europea. Definitivamente fue uno de mis lugares favoritos de todo el viaje. Además en Escocia tuvimos la oportunidad de visitar el castillo Stirling, el cual fue hogar de los reyes de Escocia durante los períodos del renacimiento escocés, donde fuimos sorprendidos por una nevada intensa. En general nos la pasamos muy bien en Escocia, aunque me gustaría regresar en verano para poder ir a lugares más al norte donde el clima ya no nos permitió llegar.

Por último, nuestro viaje nos llevó a Londres, ciudad de la que siempre he sido fan aunque nunca había estado ahí. Hay algo especial acerca de la capital británica que es extremadamente cautivador, lo moderna que esta es pero además la historia que posee, contrastando vistas de la Torre de Londres, el Casillo de Buckingham y por supuesto, el Big Ben, con edificios más nuevos como el London Eye, la Bala e inclusive la Pirámide. Fue también de Londres de donde tomamos un tour por el resto del sur de Inglaterra, visitando tres principales atracciones: el castillo de Windsor, segundo hogar de la reina, Stonehenge, patrimonio de la humanidad y maravilla del mundo, y la ciudad romana de Bath. Todas estas fueron un deleite de observar y uno de mis recuerdos más memorables del viaje fue poder tomar una foto de Stonehenge al atardecer.

Para mi viaje al Reino Unido, tuve que estar preparado para todo tipo de clima. Siendo un país tan grande y diverso fuimos de días fríos y húmedos en Irlanda del Norte, a clima extremadamente frío y nevado en la congelada Escocia, a días más cálidos y con mucha lluvia en Londres y sus alrededores. Para esto, mi chamarra Superdry fue una vez más de muchísimo uso, con la opción de ponerme el chaleco abajo para hacerla un poco más cálida. También me puse mis pantalones de doble forro de J. Crew, que tienen pana por fuera y franela en la capa interior. Estos son de mis pantalones más cálidos y funcionaron a la perfección en las áreas más frías. En cuanto a Londres y el resto del sur de Inglaterra, bastó con ponerme mis pantalones de mezclilla de Zara junto con un suéter de Carolina Herrera y una camisa de botones. Para la capa exterior, me puse mi abrigo color camello de Club Mónaco y para los zapatos los tennis Sperry y las botas de pato de Lacrosse. ¿Qué opinan amigos? Otro de mis recuerdos más memorables del viaje va a ser poderme haber tomado la foto en la estación de King’s Cross en la Plataforma 9 3/4. Por supuesto me tuve que poner mi nueva bufanda de Gryffindor de lana escocesa, ¡la cual es una réplica de la que usaron los actores en la película!

Bueno eso va a ser todo por hoy mis amigos. Si se encuentran en el Reino Unido en el futuro próximo, asegúrense de darse la vuelta por alguno de los lugares que describí anteriormente, y además siéntanse libres de explorar otros lugares ya que es un país maravilloso, muy diverso, con bastantes cosas por ver y hacer. Este fue el último post sobre mis vacaciones navideñas (y es oficialmente el fin de #EneroViajes para mí) pero espero salir de vacaciones muy pronto para enseñarles otros lugares.
