My OQ Story x Ollie Quinn

Hello my friends! I’m currently sitting in a plane on my way to New York City for New York Fashion Week. However, that’s not a valid excuse to not post on Wednesday so here I am finishing this post while I get to the Big Apple. Today I want to talk about my latest collaboration with a Canadian eyewear boutique called Ollie Quinn, which just recently opened their first store in Seattle and had invited me previously to their opening day influencers meet-up. When I visited the store, I loved the styles and look-and-feel of the shop, which is located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood here in Seattle, so when later that month the folks at Ollie Quinn reached out to me to invite me to collaborate with them I was super excited!

Many of you guys might not know this, but I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 5 years old. I wear contacts every day though, mainly because of two reasons. The first one is that since I have a very high prescription (around -11.00 in each eye) my glasses always end up being really thick and heavy. This usually impacts my day because they tend to give me a headache and nose ache, and I also work in front of a screen 8 hours a day so it gets tiring. The second reason is purely style, because due to that same high prescription, I have to choose very big, thick plastic frames that make my face and eyes look small, and I don’t like how I look with glasses. So when I met with Briar, the shop consultant at the Capitol Hill store, I was very happy to know that there was a solution to all of my problems.

You see, Ollie Quinn handles the thinnest lenses in the market, due to a high-tech material that allows you to add a very high prescription with very little material. Another problem I have is that the high-prescription lenses make my eyes look really small, which is something that he suggested we could fix with some anti-reflecting material. And I was surprised to see that they don’t only carry regular optical glasses, but also sunglasses AND prescribed sunglasses, so I can now wear sunglasses without contacts and still be able to see. I chose three different models for myself to try: a whiskey and champagne pair of spectacles, a ruby red pair of regular sunnies, and some black-with-horn prescribed sunglasses. I loved all three colors and they were really easy to style too! Overall my experience at the store was incredible and my glasses arrived in time for me to pick up after a week or so, so the wait was really short.

For the mixed tone optical glasses, I decided to wear a very casual, kinda librarian look comprised of a polka-dot light blue button-down from Club Monaco along with a pair of black corduroy pants from the same store. For the shoes, I went for my white H&M sneakers which are really comfy, and we shot at the beautiful Elliot Bay Book Co. in Capitol Hill. For the second look, I decided to wear a Christmas sweater from Abercrombie & Fitch with a pair of camo pants from Club Monaco. Underneath the sweater, I was wearing a denim shirt from J. Crew and for the shoes I used my waterproof chukka boots from Sperry Topsider. To top the look, I wore a hat from H&M and my Penfield raincoat because it was raining. Both sunglasses looked great with this edgy, street-style look as we shot in front of the amazing street art in Capitol Hill. What do you guys think? Me encuentro en este momento dentro de un avión con ruta hacia la ciudad de Nueva York para asistir a New York Fashion Week, pero eso no es excusa válida para no publicar un post en este miércoles, así que he me aquí terminando este post mientras llegamos a la Gran Manzana. El día de hoy quisiera platicarles sobre mi más reciente colaboración con una óptica canadiense llamada Ollie Quinn, la cual acaba de abrir recientemente su primera tienda en Seattle, a la que fui invitado para el evento de inauguración junto con otros influencers. Me encantaron los estilos y la apariencia de la tienda, la cual se encuentra ubicada en Capitol Hill aquí en Seattle, así que cuando se acercaron conmigo para invitarme a colaborar con ellos, ¡me emocioné bastante!

Quizás muchos de ustedes no lo saben, pero he usado lentes de aumento desde que tenía 5 años de edad. Utilizo lentes de contacto para el día a día, principalmente por dos razones. La primera es que como tengo una graduación muy alta (cerca de -11.00 en cada ojo) mis lentes siempre terminan estando muy gruesos y pesados. Esto suele impactar mi día ya que me ocasionan dolor de cabeza y me pesan en la nariz, además de que trabajo en frente de un monitor 8 horas al día. La segunda razón es simplemente por estilo, ya que también debido a la alta graduación, estoy muy limitado al tipo de lentes que puedo usar; estos tienen que ser grandes y gruesos para poder cargar con esas micas. Así que cuando me reuní con Briar, el consultor de estilo en la tienda de Capitol Hill, me alegré al saber que había una solución a cada uno de estos problemas.

Verán, Ollie Quinn maneja las micas más delgadas en el mercado, gracias a que utilizan un material de alta tecnología que permite añadir una graduación alta con poco material. El otro problema que tengo es que los lentes normalmente hacen que mis ojos se vean muy pequeños debido a la cantidad de aumento, lo cual me sugirió que podíamos mitigar con un material anti reflejante. Y además me llevé una sorpresa al ver que no sólo manejan lentes de aumento, sino también lentes de sol y lentes de sol con aumento. Escogí tres modelos diferentes para probar: un par de anteojos en color whiskey y champaña, un par de lentes de sol redondos en color rojo obscuro y unos lentes de sol graduados en color negro con el fondo en color cuerno. ¡Me encantaron estos tres estilos y fue muy fácil de combinarlos con mis outfits! En general, mi experiencia fue muy grata en la tienda y los lentes llegaron a tiempo para recogerlos después de poco más de una semana.

Para los lentes graduados en dos tonos, decidí ponerme un look muy casual, de bibliotecario, que comprendía de una camisa de puntitos en color azul celeste de Club Monaco con un par de pantalones de pana negros de la misma tienda. Para los zapatos me puse mis tennis blancos de H&M, los cuales son extremadamente cómodos, y tomamos las fotos en la tienda de libros Elliot Bay Book Co. en Capitol Hill. Para el segundo atuendo, opté por ponerme un suéter navideño de Abercrombie & Fitch junto con un par de pantalones de camuflaje de Club Monaco. Debajo del suéter, me puse mi camisa de mezclilla de J. Crew y para el calzado porté las botas a prueba de agua de Sperry Topsider. Para completar el look, me puse una gorra de H&M y mi impermeable Penfield dado que estaba lloviendo ligeramente. Ambos pares de lentes de sol se vieron muy bien con este look un poco más urbano, el cual fotografiamos en frente de las paredes graffiteadas de Capitol Hill. ¿Qué opinan amigos? ¿Ya están listos para conseguirse su propio par de lentes Ollie Quinn?
