Hello folks! Happy Wednesday! I hope that you’re all having an amazing week so far and that hopefully you’ve been enjoying some nice, spring weather. I must say that the past few days here in Seattle have been just perfect weather-wise. It feels like if we turned from winter to summer in just one week, having temperatures soaring in the upper 70s and 80 degrees and our skies as blue and sunny like if we were in the middle of July, not middle of May. I’ve been enjoying it so much, it feels good to finally get rid of the heavy jackets and coats and start wearing some summer clothes. Mornings are still cold though so you still need to wear a slight jacket for early in the day and late at night.
The other day, I had a friend’s birthday party and the theme was 90s kids, so we all needed to dress like if it was the 90s. Growing up as a kid in the 90s was awesome; there were so many things that we didn’t have back then that we could possibly couldn’t imagine our lives without, like smartphones and the ubiquity of the Internet. And if there’s something that I really like about the 90s it’s 90s fashion. Well I have to say that I had a really hard time dressing up for the 90s party, and it’s because 90s fashion has been making a comeback these past few years, and dressing for the 90s basically means dressing for 2017. One of the biggest things that became popular during the 90s was denim, and this year there’s been a recent trend on wearing denim on denim, particularly raw denim.
For this post, I want to show you what my denim on denim take on a 90s look would look like in 2017. The first thing is that, as I mentioned earlier, raw denim is the one that’s making a big comeback. For that, I got to choose my slim fit, 1975 denim pants from Zara along with a raw denim jacket from H&M. The main characteristic of raw denim is that is has not undergone the usual washing and distressing processes of denim, and it comes off with a stiff, deep blue color and a distinctive sheen. Up until the 70s all jeans were raw denim, and then the fad went away for a while. However it was back during the 90s, and today it’s back on trend (seems like every 20 years we go back to the same fads). I paired this combination with a printed tee from Topman that has a Seattle theme on it (because Seattle was HUGE in the 90s with the grunge movement) and a plaid hat from American Eagle. For the shoes, I went for brown moccasins, and I topped the look with some sunglasses with the Seattle skyline. What do you guys think? Are you ready to try your 90s comeback, denim on denim look? The wedding will take place in San Miguel de Allende, so I’m stoked to return to Guanajuato since I haven’t been there in almost 15 years (my junior high school graduation trip was to Guanajuato). San Miguel is often deemed as one of the most beautiful towns in the world, so make sure you keep posted to my social media to see the amazing places I’ll be visiting. I’ll be back on Monday, so it’s a very short trip but I’m sure it will be lots of fun. ¡Hola amigos! ¡Feliz miércoles! Espero que estén teniendo una semana increíble y ojalá que estén disfrutando de un agradable clima primaveral. Debo admitir que estos últimos días aquí en Seattle han sido perfectos en cuanto al clima se refiere. Se siente como si hubiéramos pasado de invierno a verano en tan sólo una semana, con las temperaturas llegando a los 20-25 grados y nuestros cielos tan despejados y soleados como si fuera mitad de julio y no de mayo. Yo lo he estado disfrutando bastante, se siente bien poder dejar la chamarra gruesa o el abrigo en casa y empezar a vestir ropa más veraniega. En la mañana todavía está un poco fresco, entonces aún necesitas una chamarra ligera para muy temprano en el día y por la tarde/noche cuando refresca.
El otro día, fui invitado a la fiesta de cumpleaños de una amiga y el tema de la fiesta era niños de los 90s, así que todos teníamos que vestirnos como si fueran los 90s. Crecer como un niño de los 90s fue increíble; había tantas cosas que no teníamos en ese entonces que actualmente no podríamos imaginarnos como sería nuestra vida si no existieran, como los smartphones y la ubicuidad del Internet. Y si hay algo que realmente me fascinaba de los 90s es la moda de los 90s. Pues para no hacer el cuento largo, batallé bastante para vestirme para esta fiesta de los 90s y, creo que es porque la moda de los 90s se ha vuelto popular en los últimos años y, vestirse para los 90s significa lo mismo que vestirse para el 2017. Una de las cosas que más se popularizó en esa década fue el uso de la mezclilla, y este año la mezclilla está muy de moda, particularmente la mezclilla “cruda”.
Para este post, quisiera enseñarles como mi look de mezclilla sobre mezclilla inspirado en los 90s se vería en el año 2017. Lo primero es que, como les mencioné anteriormente, la mezclilla cruda es la que realmente está teniendo un comeback este año. Para ello, me puse mis pantalones de mezclilla slim fit de 1975 de Zara junto con una chamarra de mezclilla cruda de H&M. Las principales características de este tipo de mezclilla es que no han sido procesadas con el lavado y estirado típico de la mezclilla, entonces sale de un color más oscuro y un brillo y una rigidez muy especial. Hasta antes de los 70s todos los pantalones de mezclilla se hacían con mezclilla cruda pero la moda desapareció por un tiempo. Después en los 90s regresó su popularidad y, hoy en día, una vez más está de regreso (pareciera como que cada 20 años volvemos a las mismas tendencias de moda). Emparejé esta combinación con una camiseta estampada de Topman acerca de Seattle (porque Seattle era una ciudad MUY importante en los 90s con el movimiento del grunge) y una gorra de cuadros de American Eagle. Para los zapatos, me puse unos mocasines color café y completé el look con unos lentes de sol con el skyline de Seattle en las patitas. ¿Qué opinan de este atuendo? ¿Están listos para probar el look noventero de mezclilla sobre mezclilla? El próximo fin de semana es el fin de Memorial Weekend, y estoy muy emocionado porque estaré viajando a México para la boda de unos amigos. La boda será en San Miguel de Allende, y estoy ansioso por regresar a Guanajuato ya que no lo he visitado desde hace casi 15 años (mi viaje de graduación de secundaria fue a Guanajuato). San Miguel es muchas veces considerado uno de los pueblos más hermosos del mundo, entonces asegúrense de estar al pendiente de mis redes sociales para ver los increíbles lugares que estaré visitando. Regreso el lunes, así que aunque es un viaje corto estoy seguro de que será muy divertido. Para todos en los Estados Unidos, espero que tengan un excelente fin de Memorial y recuerden siempre vestirse con estilo y dejar que los demás escuchen su voz.
