Hello folks! How is everyone doing? I hope your weeks are turning out exactly the way you planned them, and if they aren’t, don’t worry; always take the time to re-plan to keep going in the right direction, re-focus your energies, and continue towards your goal. It’s something that has always worked for me, and I believe it makes you more resilient and adaptable to unpredictable changes along the way. The other day, my really good friend Nini from Nerdly Beautiful and I decided to go thrift shopping in Capitol Hill. Nini and I are preparing a really cool blog post together (which is coming to the blog sometime in March, and you can’t miss it!) and we needed to find some props and accessories for that collaboration. For this, we decided to drop by the Goodwill on Capitol Hill, and even though I must admit this was my first thrift shopping experience, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the things we found there! From colorful scarves, to mats and cushions, to lamps and baskets, Goodwill ended up being a paradise for two bloggers who were looking for inspiration and ideas.
Needless to say, thrift shops should be bloggers’ best options for buying clothes. Think about this, we do different outfit posts every week (or two weeks) and we usually want variety in these outfits; we don’t want to use the same clothes over and over again. And what ends up happening is that we keep buying and buying new clothes, filling our wardrobes, and just probably end up using the garment once or twice before it goes to the back of the closet. This is not a sustainable mean of consuming clothes, and here’s where thrift shops come into place. You can buy some good quality products for a very modest amount of money, and what’s even better, you can return this or even give back some of your other clothes for donations and for other people to buy. It’s a very healthy model of giving clothes the right amount of use they need before someone else can enjoy it in their own outfits, and we don’t end up with all the clutter in our closets. For my outfit this day, I decided to wear my camel coat along with some jeans, a green sweater and rain boots. Since it was cold, I also decided to wear my fingerless cashmere gloves. These folks will be happy to help you in classifying your clothes and you can get some really nice value of it. I also think it is important to maintain a more sustainable model for buying and selling clothes because creating a new piece of clothing has a toll on the environment, on the people making it, and eventually it can end up oversaturating our lives as well. Also, please make sure you stay alert for when the actual collaboration with Nini comes to the blog, because it’s going to be full of surprises and I’m sure you’re going to love it. This weekend is President’s Day weekend, so I’ll be traveling to Whistler with some of my friends and I’m super excited about snowboarding for 3 days nonstop. ¡Hola lectores! ¿Cómo están todos el día de hoy? Espero que sus semanas estén yendo tal cual como lo planearon en un principio y, si no es así, no se preocupen; siempre tómense el tiempo para re-planear en la dirección correcta, re-enfocar sus energías y seguir hacia su meta. Es algo que siempre me ha funcionado y que creo que te hace más resistente y adaptable a cambios que no podemos predecir en el camino. El otro día, mi gran amiga Nini de Nerdly Beautiful y yo decidimos ir a una tienda de ropa usada en Capitol Hill. Nini y yo estamos preparando una colaboración muy interesante juntos (la cual podrán ver hacer su aparición en el blog por ahí de marzo, ¡así que no se la pueden perder!) y necesitábamos encontrar algunos ornamentos de decoración y accesorios para la misma. Para ello, nos dimos la vuelta por el Goodwill que se encuentra en Capitol Hill y, aunque debo admitir que fue la primera vez que iba de compras a una de estas tiendas, les tengo que decir que me lleve una grata sorpresa con las cosas que encontramos en ese lugar. Desde coloridas bufandas, a tapetes y cojines, a lámparas y canastas, Goodwill terminó siendo un paraíso para dos bloggers en busca de inspiración e ideas.
Creo que no hace falta decirlo, pero las tiendas de ropa usada debieran ser la mejor opción para que los bloggers compremos ropa. Piensen en esto, hacemos un post con un outfit diferente cada semana o dos y usualmente queremos variedad en estos atuendos; no queremos usar la misma ropa una y otra vez. Y lo que termina pasando es que seguimos comprando ropa nueva, la cual llena nuestros guardarropas y que probablemente sólo utilizaremos en una o dos ocasiones antes de que se pierda en la parte de atrás del closet. Esto no es un método sustentable de consumo de ropa y, es ahí donde las tiendas de ropa usada entran en la ecuación. Ahí uno puede comprar productos de muy buena calidad y por una módica cantidad de dinero y, lo que es mejor, puedes regresar esas prendas o inclusive donar algunas de las prendas que ya no usas para que otras personas las compren. Es un modelo muy saludable que permite que cada prenda obtenga el uso adecuando antes de que alguien más pueda utilizarlas en sus propios outfits y, al final de cuentas, no terminamos con toda la ropa arrumbada en el clóset. Para mi outfit de ese día decidí ponerme mi abrigo color camello con unos pantalones de mezclilla, un suéter verde y mis botas de lluvia. Dado que hacía frío, también me puse mis guantes sin dedos de casimir. ¿Qué opinan de este conjunto? ¿Están pensando en darle una oportunidad a Goodwill? Eso va a ser todo por hoy amigos, el día de hoy escribí un post un poco más corto pero espero que aprecien los consejos que les doy y que se den la oportunidad de visitar Goodwill o alguna de estas tiendas, ya sea para donar algo de su ropa o para comprar algo que eventualmente van a donar de regreso. Nuestros amigos ahí estarán muy contentos de ayudarles a clasificar su ropa y pueden obtener un gran valor de ella. También creo que es importante mantener un modelo más sustentable de consumo de ropa ya que crear una pieza nueva tiene un impacto en el medio ambiente, en las personas que la fabrican y eventualmente, también pueden llegar a sobresaturar nuestras vidas. Además les recomiendo mantenerse muy al pendiente del blog para cuando suba la colaboración que estoy preparando con Nini al blog, ya que va a estar llena de sorpresas y estoy seguro que les encantará. Este fin de semana es el Día del Presidente, y estaré viajando a Whistler con unos amigos; ya estoy muy emocionado para ir a snowboardear 3 días seguidos.
