Filson + Sharply X Seattle Gents

Hello, hello! Another week has gone by and as promised, I’m back with a new blog post, exactly 2 weeks after our last post. I want to thank everyone for their support on the last post, it was great to see so many people subscribing already to my new Facebook page and I just want to keep growing that number post after post. I also received a lot of positive feedback on the photoshoot from last week, which I forgot to mention, but the photos were taken by my roommate Carlos. Thanks Carlos for the photos! And this week, I have a very special post prepared. The last two weeks, the Seattle Gents and I had the opportunity to visit two amazing local shops here in Seattle. We were invited to both of these stores to look at their latest collections for the Spring 2017 season along with having a few drinks and food, and I must say that I was greatly impressed. Here I will talk to you a little bit about both of these brands and why I think they represent the new direction in which Seattle fashion is moving forward.

Filson Co. is a company that has been around for, and you’re not going to believe this, 120 years. It was founded by C. C. Filson in 1897, during the Great Klondike Gold Rush, here in the city of Seattle, and originally, it was the main supplier of cold outerwear and knit goods for the explorers going North. As the Gold Rush came to an end, Filson kept its promise of listening to the outdoorsmen needs and people kept coming to this amazing, historic store. Some of the coolest garments that we saw during the Filson show were flannel shirts, for the every day use, bags and leather accessories, and the classic Cruiser jackets. I was able to try their most well-known wool parka and guys, it was extremely warm, super comfortable, ahh it’s just what I needed for this extraordinarily cold winter we’re having in Seattle this year. Another really cool feature about this brand is that they offer a lifetime guarantee on all of their items, which means that if your clothes get damaged they’ll repair them in the Repair Shop in their flagship SoDo store. If you’re looking for a classic, PNWer look, then Filson is your store of choice, and I feel that with Seattle’s fashion becoming so popular lately we’re going to hear more about these folks really soon.

The second store that we got the privilege to visit was the Sharply store in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. The folks from Sharply invited the Seattle Gents to their showroom and they provided drinks and snacks, while providing us with a short summary of the origin of this company and a look at their most-recent collection. Sharply is a menswear e-commerce brand that’s designed for the regular guy. They characterize themselves for being a brand that looks great but also feels great, which is really important for their customer. They have a wide variety of products, from t-shirts, to polos and henleys, to outerwear and sweaters. All of their product is fabricated in California, and they offer free shipping (with free returns as well) throughout the United States. Something that I noticed right away about the clothes from Sharply is that these products are of high quality; the fabric feels really good (especially loved the cashmere sweaters) and their jeans are to die for. I wanted to try a pair but I didn’t have a chance (also I was wearing a suit so I didn’t want to go through the pain of changing outfits). Besides their own brand, the store sells Jean Shop New York Denim, Miansai accessories, Randolph sunglasses, and guess what, Filson jackets and bags! I think that this brand is going to grow a lot since they chose Seattle as their key market, since people in Seattle tend to want to spend few time shopping (do mostly online shopping) and want things that will last and endure the conditions of the PNW.

Well, there you go my friends, two new brands that I totally recommend that you guys check out, and if you live in the Seattle area, make sure you take a look around these two flagship stores. They are really well located, nicely arranged, and beautifully presented, and I’m sure once you see these products in real life and have a look at the quality of the materials you’ll understand why I was so taken away by both brands. This weekend I’ll be traveling to Mexico City for the wedding of a friend’s cousin, and I must say that I’m super excited about the trip in general and about going back to one of my favorite cities in the world. ¡Hola, hola! Una semana más que se nos va del año, y como lo prometido es deuda, estoy de vuelta una vez más con un nuevo post exactamente 2 semanas después del anterior. Quisiera agradecerles a todos por su apoyo en mi último post, me encantó ver como muchas personas se empezaron a suscribir rápidamente a la página de Facebook y sólo quiero que ese número siga creciendo con cada artículo que escribo. También recibí mucha retroalimentación positiva acerca de la sesión de fotos pasada, la cual olvidé mencionar que fue tomada por mi roommate Carlos. ¡Gracias Carlos por las fotografías! Y esta semana, les tengo preparado un post muy especial. Estas pasadas dos semanas, los Seattle Gents y yo tuvimos la oportunidad de visitar dos tiendas locales increíbles aquí en Seattle. Fuimos invitados a estas dos tiendas para darle un vistazo a su más reciente colección para la primavera-verano 2017 aunado de unos tragos y de bocadillos y, debo admitir que estoy impresionado. Aquí les platico un poco acerca de estas dos marcas y por qué siento que representan la nueva dirección hacia la que la moda en Seattle está avanzando.

Filson Co. es una compañía que fue fundada, no me lo van a creer, hace 120 años. La creó C. C. Filson en 1897, durante la gran fiebre del oro de Klondike, aquí en la ciudad de Seattle, y originalmente, era el principal proveedor de abrigos de invierno y pieles y tejidos para los exploradores que iban rumbo al norte. Conforme fue cediendo la fiebre del oro, Filson mantuvo su promesa de escuchar a las necesidades del hombre que pasa su tiempo en el exterior y la gente seguía acudiendo a esta increíble e histórica tienda. Algunas de las prendas que más me llamaron la atención durante la presentación de Filson fueron las camisas de franela, para el uso día con día, las mochilas y los accesorios de piel y las clásicas chamarras estilo Cruiser. Tuve la oportunidad además de probarme su súper conocida parka de lana y chicos, estaba extremadamente cálida y muy cómoda, ahh es justo lo que necesito para este invierno tan extraordinariamente frío que estamos teniendo en Seattle este año. Otra de las características que realmente me llamó la atención es que esta marca ofrece garantía de por vida en todas sus prendas, lo que significa que si tu ropa se llega a dañar con el uso puedes traerla a su Tienda de Reparación aquí en su matriz de SoDo para que te la arreglen. Si estás buscando un look clásico, fiel representante del Pacífico Noroeste, entonces Filson es tu tienda a elegir y, al estarse volviendo tan popular la moda de Seattle en el país y en el mundo, siento que vamos a seguir escuchando mucho de esta marca en el futuro cercano.

La segunda tienda que tuvimos el privilegio de visitar fue la tienda Sharply en el vecindario de Ballard aquí en Seattle. Nuestros compañeros de Sharply invitaron a los Seattle Gents a su cuarto de muestra donde nos proveyeron de bebidas y botana, mientras nos daban un pequeño resumen acerca del origen de esta compañía y observábamos su más nueva colección. Sharply es una tienda de ropa en línea que está diseñada con el hombre regular en mente. Se caracterizan por ser una marca que no sólo se ve bien, sino que también se siente muy bien, lo cual es muy importante para su cliente. Tienen una gran variedad de productos, desde camisetas, a camisas polo, henley, ropa para el exterior y suéteres. Todos sus productos son fabricados en California y ofrecen envío gratis (y devolución gratis también) a lo largo de los Estados Unidos. Algo que noté de inmediato sobre la ropa de Sharply es que estos son productos de alta calidad; las telas se sienten muy bien (especialmente amé los suéteres de cashmere) y sus pantalones de mezclilla están para morirse. Me los quise probar, pero como me puse traje no quise pasar por la molestia de cambiarme de outfit. Además de su propia marca, la tienda vende Jean Shop New York Denim, accesorios Miansai, lentes de sol Randolph, y adivinen qué, ¡chamarras y bolsas Filson! Creo que esta marca va a crecer bastante ya que escogieron a Seattle como su mercado meta, pues siento que la mayoría de la gente en Seattle tiende a querer tomar poco tiempo haciendo compras (o hacer la mayoría en línea) y busca ropa que va a durar y perdurar a través de las condiciones del Pacífico Noroeste.

Ahí tienen amigos, dos marcas que les recomiendo ampliamente y, si viven en el área de Seattle, dense la vuelta por alguna de sus tiendas principales, no se van a arrepentir. Están muy bien ubicadas, la ropa muy bien acomodada y presentada de forma atractiva, y estoy seguro de que cuando vean estos productos en vivo se darán cuenta que la calidad de los materiales es excelente y entenderán por qué quedé tan gratamente soprendido con ambas marcas. Eso va a ser todo por hoy, pero mántenganse al pendiente ya que hay mucho más por venir de los Seattle Gents en las próximas semanas. Este fin de semana estaré viajando a la Ciudad de México para asistir a la boda de la prima de una amiga y debo admitir que estoy muy emocionado por el viaje en general y por volver a una de mis ciudades favoritas del mundo.
