Winter in Seattle (Hello 2017)

Hello my friends! Happy New Year everyone! Since this is the first post of 2017 I hope that each one of you is having an amazing start of the year so far, and in terms of goals and successes, that this year may be the best one yet in your lives. You might be wondering why it took so long for my first post this year, and the answer is very simple and one of my New Year’s resolutions this year: refocusing. Last year my objective was increasing my influence in the city’s fashion scene, which I did by collaborating with local brands and by going to fashion events and working with other bloggers. The previous year, my energy and time were all about getting exposure and achieving a consistently-engaged readership, which I achieved by posting regularly and doing weekly posts on my daily outfits. This year I want to take things back a few notches and do one thing that is very important in every cycle in our lives and through which we go several times in life: to refocus. I’ve been thinking really hard these past few days on where I want to go this year in terms of blogging, and to be able to do that I needed to take some time aback to reflect on why I created this blog initially and which path I want it to follow moving forward.

I originally created this blog to spread with other people my love for style and fashion, to share one of my greatest passions and also help people out there who might be looking for the best outfit for a certain occasion, or who just like to see what’s trending or is hot in fashion right now, and ultimately share my point of view. It was intended to be a hobby, since I fortunately have a full-time job and I didn’t need to struggle with the idea of starting from scratch in making a career out of blogging. I know some people do this successfully, but I’ve learned and I’ve seen that it’s really hard and it requires a lot of sacrifice and work. Last year I saw the largest increase in readership, interaction, and collaboration opportunities that my blog has ever seen. It was an incredible year in terms of blog success, and of course, none of that would have been possible without you, and I’m so grateful that I didn’t see my professional or personal life affected. This year however, I plan on refocusing my efforts, and no, this doesn’t mean that I’m not going to blog any more, I’m just going to do it more thoughtfully. My objective here is that I want to bring you the best content quality possible because I’ve seen in the past that the more work, time, and effort I put into a post the better the results are. 

The first thing I’m going to do is separate my personal Facebook account from my blog account. The reason I’m doing this is that 1) I want to again be able to live, enjoy, and cherish the moments with my family and friends without having to think whether that’s the perfect photo I want to show on my timeline, or if the lighting is good, or if I feel I look well-dressed, and 2) because I want my blog to reach out to other people whether I know them personally or they are connected to me in any way. It will also make it easier for collaborators to contact me and it will hopefully increase the strength and visibility of my brand online, without having to give up my personal story to do it. The second thing I’m doing is that I’m moving to a bi-weekly post cadence from now on. Don’t think of this as a way of saying I’ll take less care or spend less time on my blog; think of it more as the quality of the content you’ll see will be greater. I know I’ll probably spend even more time blogging this year than last year, but I hope that you’ll be able to see this improvement right away. I already have plenty of ideas and collaboration opportunities for this year, and in the right time, you’ll be able to see and enjoy all of them here, just as I have done it for the past two years. I hope these efforts are fruitful and that you understand where this is coming from; as a creator dosing my ideas is going to be extremely hard, but I think it’s for the best interest both of my career as a blogger and for yourselves my readers, to give the best of me so you get the best you deserve.

Before concluding this post I want to talk a little bit about the outfit I’m wearing in this one, because of course I couldn’t just ignore it! Seattle has been literally freezing for most of this month so far, and in these cold days, my usual light jackets and cardigans have not been enough. I had to incorporate into my almost daily outfits the parka, but guys, you don’t need to splurge $500 on an expensive, down parka. This parka from H&M has been wonderful so far! And I know what you may be thinking, why the double hat? Well first of all, the hat is so cool in how it shows exactly how I’m feeling all the time (BRRRRRR!) and also, the parka hood doesn’t cover my head tightly so even with it on I feel cold. As for the rest of the outfit, I went for a plaid shirt with a blue, warm sweater on and a pair of brown chinos. As for the boots, these are the lovely Tommy boots I got from my family as a Christmas present in December. I’m loving them and they fit my wardrobe to perfection. Okay that’s it for now friends, I hope you keep posted to everything coming to the blog really soon and on my side, I’ll promise to give the best I can to you. I am looking forward to this year with a lot of hope and tons of ideas, and of course, a lot of passion for what I love doing, which is fashion. See you next time! Let’s make it count!

¡Hola amigos míos! ¡Feliz año nuevo a todos! Dado que este es el primer post del 2017 deseo que todos ustedes estén teniendo un inicio de año espectacular hasta ahora, y que en términos de metas y éxitos, este sea el mejor año de sus vidas. Se preguntarán por qué me tomó tanto tiempo para escribir el primer post del año esta vez, y la respuesta a ello es muy sencilla y uno de mis propósitos de año nuevo: re-enfocarme. El año pasado mi objetivo era incrementar mi influencia en la industria de la moda en mi ciudad, lo cual logré por medio de colaboraciones con marcas locales y asistiendo a eventos de moda y trabajando con otros bloggers. El año anterior a ese, mi energía y tiempo estaban canalizados a obtener más audiencia y lograr un conjunto de lectores activamente involucrados con mi blog, y eso lo obtuve mediante posts regulares sobre mis atuendos del día a día. Este año, quisiera cambiar de ritmo un poco y hacer algo que es muy importante en todo ciclo de nuestras vidas y por lo que pasamos varias veces: el re-enfocarme. He estado pensando arduamente estos últimos días en hacia dónde quiero llegar en términos de blogging y para hacerlo tuve que separarme de este un poco para reflexionar en por qué inicié el blog en un principio y cuál es el camino que quiero seguir de ahora en delante.

Originalmente creé este blog para tener un espacio donde pudiera compartir con otras personas mi amor por el estilo y por la moda, una de mis más grandes pasiones, y para ayudar a aquellos que estén buscando en cómo vestirse para alguna situación especial, o que quieren saber que es lo más in en el mundo de la moda y compartir mi punto de vista al respecto. Estaba intencionado para ser un hobby, dado que tengo mi trabajo de tiempo completo y no quería batallar con la idea de empezar desde cero haciendo una carrera alrededor del blog. Sé que algunas personas logran esto último exitosamente, pero he aprendido y he visto que es muy díficil hacerlo y que requiere de mucho trabajo y sacrificio. El año pasado, fui testigo del mayor incremento en lectores, interacción y oportunidades de colaboración que mi blog jamás haya visto. Fue un año increíble en términos de éxito online, que por supuesto, no hubiera sido posible de no ser por ustedes. Este año, sin embargo, planeo re-enfocar mis esfuerzos y no, esto no significa que voy a dejar mi blog, al contrario, lo haré con mucho más trabajo y trasfondo. Mi objetivo aquí es que quiero traerles la mejor calidad de contenido posible porque he visto en el pasado que entre más tiempo, trabajo y esfuerzo le invierto a un post, mejores son los resultados.

Lo primero que haré será separar mi cuenta personal de Facebook de la cuenta de mi blog. Las razones por las que hago esto son que 1) quiero poder volver a vivir, apreciar y disfrutar los momentos con mi familia y amigos sin tener que pensar en si la foto está perfecta para poder aparecer en mi timeline, o si la iluminación es la adecuada, o si siento que me vestí bien, y 2) porque quiero que mi blog esté al alcance de otras personas me conozcan o estén relacionadas conmigo o no. También hará más fácil el que colaboradores me contacten y espero que aumente la fuerza y visibilidad de mi marca en la red, sin tener que poner a un lado mi historia personal para hacerlo. La segunda cosa que haré es que de ahora en adelante publicaré posts cada dos semanas. No vean esto como una forma de decir que me va a importar menos o que invertiré menos tiempo en mi blog; véanlo más como en que la calidad del contenido va a mejorar. Sé que probablemente tendré que invertir aún más tiempo bloggeando este año que el año pasado, y notarán estas mejoras desde un principio. Ya tengo muchas ideas y oportunidades de colaboración para este año y, en su debido tiempo, podrán disfrutar de ellas sólo aquí por este medio, como lo he hecho por los pasados dos años. En verdad espero que estas medidas sean fructíferas y que entiendan por qué lo hago; como un creador, dosificar mis ideas va a ser extremadamente difícil, pero siento que es por el mejor interés tanto de mi carrera como blogger como de ustedes como mis lectores, el darles lo mejor de mí para que ustedes reciban lo mejor que merecen

Por último, antes de concluir este post quisiera hablar un poco acerca del outfit que decidí ponerme para este, ¿porque no podíamos ignorarlo verdad? Seattle ha estado literalmente congelado en lo que va de este mes y, en estas fechas más frías, mis usuales chamarras ligeras y cardigans no han sido suficiente. Tuve que incorporar a casi todos mis outfits diarios una parka, pero oigan, no necesitan gastarse $500 o más en una parka de pluma de ganso. ¡Esta parka de H&M me ha funcionado de maravilla hasta ahora!  Y sé lo que están pensando, ¿por qué utilizar dos gorras? Primeramente, el gorrito está genial ya que refleja cómo me siento todo este tiempo (BRRRRR!) y además, el gorro de la parka no se ajusta a mi cabeza, por lo que el frío pasa por los lados. Para el resto del outfit me puse una camisa de cuadros con un suéter azul muy cálido y unos pantalones chinos color café. Y para el calzado, traigo puestas las hermosas botas Tommy que me regaló mi familia como obsequio de Navidad este diciembre. Me fascinan y combinan con mi guardarropa a la perfección. Muy bien, ahora sí es todo por hoy amigos, espero que se mantengan al pendiente de todo lo que está por venir en el blog y yo por mi parte, prometo darles lo mejor de mí. Estoy viendo este año con mucho entusiasmo, muchas ideas, y sobre todo, con muchísima pasión por lo que me encanta hacer: hablar de moda. ¡Hasta la próxima! ¡Hagamos que cuente!
