The Valley of 100 Wineries

Hi everyone! Happy Hump Day! I hope you’re all having an amazing week so far and that all your plans are materializing little by little. It feels so good when you check that box on that to-do list and as the year comes closer to an end, there’s so many things we always want to do that just need to be put in the back burner for a while. Personally, I’m really excited for this holiday season. It’s been a while since I’ve seen my family and friends for more than a weekend, so it will be nice to finally spend some quality time with them and to enjoy the multiple dinners, parties, and events that usually happen during the month of December. There are some crazy days ahead before that starts to happen though, so for now, I’ll just continue crossing those items of the to-do list and start getting ready for a nice winter break.

Another bucket list where it feels really good to cross things off is the travel bucket list, because we certainly all have one and we can only cross a few places off the list every year. This year, I was fortunate to finally cross off my list going to Chicago, which I’ve been wanting to since I was very young, and just two weeks ago, I got to cross off one more place in the list which had been there for a while: Napa. Located around an hour drive away from San Francisco, the Napa Valley is an extensive, beautiful area of grasslands and hills where the weather is temperate and humid almost year round. This has made this area one of the nicest environments for vineyards and grapes to grow in, and hundreds of wineries have located themselves within this region. I’ve always wanted to do wine tasting in one of these exclusive locations, mainly because some of the best wine in the world is produced here in Central California, but also because of the beautiful scenery and the surroundings of these vineyards.

During our trip to Napa Valley, my best friend and I went to a place called Castello Di Amorosa, near a city called Calistoga, just north of Napa and Sonoma. This place was built to resemble an Italian Medieval castle, and it hosts hundreds of thousands of tourists a year to test out their most exclusive wines, since they only sell them here at the castle. For my trip to the Castello, I decided to wear the camel coat I wore to the wedding, but this time, in a more sporty, casual look. I created the sense of sportiness by combining the coat with a Fair Isle crew sweater from American Eagle and a plaid flannel from Uniqlo. For the pants, I went for an olive green, camouflage chino pant to match the vineyards, and topped the whole look with a black-and-white cashmere scarf, also from Uniqlo. Overall, we had a blast at the gorgeous castle, and we got to try out 5 different wines from the same winery. By the end of the day, it started getting a little chilly and it drizzled a bit, so this coat protected me from the cold. What do you guys think? I’m also really excited because next week my sister will be visiting from Mexico my city of Seattle. We already have a ton of things planned (from going shopping to the outlets, screaming our lungs out at the Seahawks game, watching a Broadway play, and going skiing) so it will be a week packed of fun. Then it’s one more week for me in the PNW and I’ll be heading back to spend some time with the rest of my family. ¡Hola a todos! ¡Feliz mitad de semana! Espero que todos estén teniendo una semana increíble hasta ahora y que poco a poco sus planes se estén materializando. Se siente tan bien cuando uno puede ponerle una palolomita a ese elemento de una lista de cosas que hacer y, conforme el fin de año se acerca, hay muchísimas cosas que quisiéramos hacer pero que necesitamos poner a un lado por lo pronto. Personalmente, me siento muy emocionado por esta temporada decembrina. Ha pasado ya algún tiempo desde que pude estar con mi familia y amigos por más de un fin de semana, así que me será de mucho bien el pasar un poco de tiempo de calidad con ellos y de disfrutar de las múltiples cenas, fiestas y eventos que usualmente ocurren en el mes de diciembre. Se avecinan días bastante ajetreados antes de que todo eso comience, así que por ahora, seguiré tachando esas tareas de mi lista para empezar a prepararme para un merecido descanso invernal.

Otra lista más de la que se siente muy bien tachar elementos que vamos cumpliendo es la lista de lugares que queremos visitar, ya que de seguro todos tenemos una pero desafortunadamente sólo podemos tachar un par de lugares de la lista cada año. Este año, por ejemplo, me sentí muy afortunado al finalmente poder tachar a Chicago de mi lista de lugares que quería visitar, ya que quería ir ahí desde que era más joven, y tan sólo hace dos semanas, logré tachar un lugar más de esa lista: Napa. Situado a tan sólo una hora de distancia en carro de San Francisco, el valle de Napa es un área hermosa y extensa de pastizales y colinas donde el clima es templado y húmedo durante casi todo el año. Esto hace que esta sea una de las áreas idóneas para que crezcan viñas y uvas, y cientos de viñedos se han colocado en esa zona precisamente por eso. Siempre he querido venir a probar vinos a uno de estos exclusivos viñedos, principalmente porque algunos de los mejores vinos del mundo se producen en el centro de California, pero también por los impresionantes escenarios y alrededores de esta joya californiana.

Durante nuestro viaje al valle de Napa, mi mejor amiga y yo fuimos a un lugar llamado Castello Di Amorosa, cerca de una ciudad llamada Calistoga, al norte de Napa y Sonoma. Este lugar fue construido a semejanza de los antiguos castillos medievales italianos, y cientos de miles de turistas lo visitan cada año para probar sus vinos exclusivos, los cuales sólo se venden aquí en el castillo. Para mi viaje a Castello, decidí ponerme una vez más el abrigo color camello que vestí para la boda, pero esta vez, en un look más deportivo y casual. Para crear este sentido de ropa sport combiné el abrigo con un suéter de estampado de las Islas Noruegas de American Eagle y una camisa de franela de cuadros de Uniqlo. Para los pantalones, opté por este par de chinos en color verde olivo para camuflajearme con los viñedos y, completé el look entero con una bufanda en blanco y negro de casimir también de Uniqlo. En general, nos la pasamos increíble en el hermoso castillo y pudimos probar 5 vinos diferentes hechos por este mismo viñedo. Mientras visitábamos empezó a refrescar un poco e inclusive comenzó a chispear, pero este abrigo me protegió muy bien del frío. ¿Ustedes que opinan? ¿Les gusta esta otra combinación, muy diferente, para vestir el abrigo color camello que me compré? También estoy extremadamente feliz porque la próxima semana me visitará mi hermana desde México aquí en Seattle. Ya tenemos un montón de actividades planeadas (dese ir de shopping a los outlets, acabarnos la voz en el juego de los Seahawks, ver una obra de Broadway e ir a esquiar) así que sé que será una semana llena de diversión. Después me queda una semana más aquí en Seattle y luego me voy para pasar tiempo con mi familia.
