Photography, just like fashion, is a form of creation; a depiction of ourselves and our surroundings as perceived by the observer and the creator. It is a type of art that frees humanity from all natural laws, and it shows the hidden aspects of our mind. It is in a way, a medium to tell a story to people through emotions, movement, lighting, all this being done by having fun, enjoying the wild fantasies, and living the moment. One can do all of it at the same time with photography, which gives us a lens through which the world is deformed and transformed by our very own preconceptions. What you see is as real as the emotions behind the eyes of the subject and the intricacies of their own mind.
For this post, I collaborated with my super talented friend Kate Shin, from Little BQ Photography, to bring to life her ideas and render them into the beautiful art of photography. Kate is fascinated by the way the human brain works, and how we tell our stories through our eyes and body expression. She has done previous work in the past with female models, but I got the opportunity and the privilege of being her first male model. We had a blast while shooting, from choosing the right lighting in the room, to selecting the poses and faces I was going to put my body in, and finally, we just let our creativity fly a little bit with body paint and movement.
As for the fashion element in this photoshoot, you can see it’s minimal, although there are a cool pieces I want to talk about. The denim shirt from J. Crew is super cool for having that easy-going vibe I like to portray. Since it’s summer already, the summer pants I’m wearing are a red-hot pair from Abercrombie and Fitch. The fit is really good, and this is a color that can’t be missing from your wardrobes. Red is everywhere this season. What do you guys think? Do you like the more artistic take on this photoshoot? La fotografía, al igual que la moda, es una forma de crear; una ilustración nuestra y del mundo que nos rodea como es percibida por el observador y el creador. Es un tipo de arte que libera al ser humano de las leyes naturales y muestra los aspectos más escondidos de nuestra mente. Es, en cierta manera, un medio para contar una historia a través de las emociones, el movimiento, la iluminación, todo esto haciéndose mientras uno se divierte, disfruta las fantasías más alocadas y vive el momento. Uno puede hacer todo esto a la vez gracias a la fotografía, la cual nos da una lente para ver al mundo siendo transformado y deformado por nuestros propios preconceptos. Lo que se ve es tan real como las emociones detrás de los ojos del sujeto y las minuciosidades de sus propias mentes.
Para este post colaboré con mi amiga súper talentosa Kate Shin, de Little BQ Photography, para traer a la vida sus ideas y plasmarlas en el hermoso arte de la fotografía. A Kate le fascina la manera en que el cerebro funciona y como hacemos un relato por medio de nuestros ojos y nuestra expresión corporal. Ella ya ha hecho anteriormente múltiples trabajos con modelos femeninos, y en esta ocasión, tuve la oportunidad y el privilegio de convertirme en su primer modelo masculino. Nos la pasamos increíble tomando estas fotos, desde el elegir la iluminación adecuada para la habitación, hasta seleccionar las poses y las caras que iba a hacer y finalmente, dejar nuestra creatividad volar un poco con algo de pintura sobre piel y movimiento.
El elemento de la moda en esta sesión, como pueden observar, es mínimo, aunque sí quisiera recalcar algunas de las piezas que estoy vistiendo aquí. La camisa de mezclilla de J. Crew está increíble para dar ese sentimiento de frescura y juventud. Además, como ya estamos en pleno verano, los pantalones de verano color rojo fuerte de Abercrombie and Fitch son algo que no puede faltar en sus guardarropas. El color rojo está por todos lados esta temporada. ¿Qué opinan al respecto? ¿Les gusta el tono más artístico de este post? Mientras platicaba con Kate me comentó que el nombre de esta colección es “Curiosidad”. Quisiera agradecerle enormemente el haber trabajado conmigo para crear estas fotos que realmente incitan al pensamiento y también quiero agradecerle por hacerme sentir agusto al exponerme de esa manera ante la cámara.
