Hello, hello my friends! How is everybody doing today? First and foremost, wow, I’m speechless by your response to the Tulip Fields post. It literally broke every record I could remember on my blog in terms of views and shares and clicks, and that is extremely exciting! I’m so glad you guys received with such enthusiasm one of my favorite posts to date and I’m really excited about the next posts that Kim and I have in mind for the His and Hers series. When two creative minds like ours get together the sky instantly becomes the limit, and it’s incredible how we just bring the best out of each other when we collaborate. And for your response to be so positive, it’s just really humbling since none of this would be possible without your comments, your support, and just for stopping by and reading me. By reading my story we’re already becoming part of something greater together, and I want to thank you deeply for sharing this opportunity with me.
As you already know, it was just two weekends ago that my friends and I traveled to Coachella for a once-in-a-lifetime experience of music, art, and fashion. It’s amazing to see how fashion is also becoming a great component of this festival since it’s a maximum expression of ourselves and it involves a lot of creativity and thought process behind it. There’s something unapologetically unique about the fashion at Coachella and it seems festival goers take higher and higher risks every year, in terms of originality, of trying to convey a message, or simply just wearing something they wouldn’t wear in an everyday situation. Combine this with a set of some of the most renowned names in music and you get a complete getaway for art and expression to be freely demonstrated to the utmost degree, and that’s when the magic happens for the three wildest days of the year.
For this year at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival, I decided to choose three main themes for reigning my daily outfits: bohemian style, denim, and of course, prints. For day one, I decided to wear a tribal tank from 21 Men along with light blue jean shorts from Topman. There’s something about this shirt that just screams bohemian to me, from the fit to the colors and also the nice patterns and layering on the hems. I accessorized this look with my pair of appropriately-named Desert boots by Clarks and a straw hat. For day two, I went for a denim on denim look, which combines a dark denim shirt from J. Crew that I got on sale last season with a pair of gray, worn-out jean shorts also by Topman. I complemented this look with a polka-dot snapback since it was a very warm day, and for the shoes I went for Sperry boat shoes. On the last day, I went all-in with prints with a print shirt and print shorts that seem to don’t match at all, but actually work quite well for a place like Coachella. Some leather sneakers and an embroidered bracelet from Club Monaco finish the styling for that day. All and all, my looks were different, comfortable, and I felt risky. Do you think some of these risks paid off? Whether it was chanting to James Bay’s “Let it go”, screaming our lungs out with CHVRCHES to “Leave a trace”, dangling from a “Chandelier” with Sia, or rocking to Calvin Harris’s “How deep is your love”, the festival was a complete success and I had an amazing time and made beautiful memories that will stay with me forever. That will be it for today, but there are a few things I want to remind you about. ¡Hola, hola amigos míos! ¿Cómo están el día de hoy? Antes de empezar quisiera decirles, wow, estoy realmente sorprendido por su respuesta al post de los campos de tulipanes. Literalemente rompió todos los records que puedo recordar en mi blog en términos de vistas, compartidos y clicks, y ¡eso es extremadamente increíble! Me hace muy feliz el ver que hayan recibido uno de mis posts favoritos a la fecha con tanto entusiasmo y me motiva a hacer un trabajo todavía mejor con Kim para la serie Él y Ella. Cuando dos mentes creativas como las nuestras se unen las estrellas se vuelven el límite, y me es impresionante ver como cuando colaboramos sacamos lo mejor uno del otro. Y al ser su respuesta tan positiva, me hace sentir muy agradecido ya que nada de esto sería posible sin sus comentarios, su apoyo y por el simple hecho de pasar por aquí y leerme. Al leer mi historia nos convertimos en parte de algo todavía más grande juntos y por eso quisiera agradecerles profundamente el permitirme compartir esta oportunidad con ustedes.
Como ya la mayoría sabe, hace apenas dos fines de semana mis amigos y yo nos encontrábamos en Coachella en una experiencia única de música, arte y por supuesto moda. Me es gratificante ver como la moda se está convirtiendo en uno de los principales componentes de este festival ya que ésta es la máxima expresión que hacemos de nosotros mismos e involucra una gran creatividad y mucho pensamiento detrás de ella. Hay algo especialmente único de la moda en Coachella y al parecer los asistentes al festival toman mayores y mayores riesgos año con año, en términos de originalidad, para transmitir un mensaje o simplemente para vestir algo que no harían en una situación cotidiana. Combinemos esto con un conjunto de los artistas más reconocidos en el mundo de la música y obtenemos un paraíso para despejarnos y dejar que el arte y la expresión se demuestren de manera libre al máximo nivel, y es ahí cuando la magia sucede en los tres días más intensos del año.
Este año, para el festival de arte y música de Coachella, decidí elegir tres temas principales para regir mis outfits del día a día: un estilo bohemio, la mezclilla y por supuesto, estampados. Para el día uno, me puse una camiseta sin manga tribal de 21 Men junto con unos shorts de mezclilla color azul claro de Topman. Hay algo en esta camiseta que me grita “bohemio” por todos lados, desde el ajuste de la ropa a los patrones y las capas que tiene en la bastilla. Para los accesorios, opté por mi par de botas para el desierto (atinadamente acuñado el nombre) de Clarks junto con un sombrero de paja. Para el día dos, cree un look de mezclilla sobre mezclilla, combinando una camisa de mezclilla oscura de J. Crew que obtuve en rebaja la temporada pasada con un par de shorts de mezclilla desgastados en color gris de Topman. Complementé este look con una gorra de puntitos ya que era un día muy caluroso y para los zapatos utilicé zapatos de bote de Sperry. Para el último día, me fui de lleno sobre los estampados vistiendo una camisa de estampado con unos shorts de estampado que inicialmente parecieran no combinar juntos, pero en un lugar como Coachella esto funciona a la perfección. Mis tenis de cuero y una pulsera con piedrería de Club Monaco terminarían el look de ese día. En general, mis looks eran diferentes, muy cómodos e involucraban algo de riesgo. ¿Sienten que estos riesgos dieron frutos? Quisiera agradecer a mis amigos Joe y Valeria por tomar la mayoría de estas fotografías (y a Joe también por compartir conmigo algunas de las fotos de su cámara ya que no cargué con la mía los tres días) .
Ya sea cantando “Let it go” de James Bay, gritando a todo lo que da con “Leave a trace” en CHVRCHES, colgando del “candelabro” con Sia o bailando al son de “How deep is your love” de Calvin Harris, el festival fue un éxito rotundo y me la pasé increíble creando recuerdos que se quedarán conmigo por siempre. Esto va a ser todo por hoy, aunque hay algunos recordatorios que quisiera mencionarles. Hay dos colaboraciones con dos marcas que presentaré muy pronto aquí en el blog, y uno más donde escribiré acerca de Metropolitan Fashion Week, evento que acaba de suceder este sábado pasado.
