Hello, hello my friends! Today’s His and Hers entry is very special, because this time it not only features the amazing Kim from HelloKimWin, but we introduce another very special friend of ours for a beautiful collection of cherry blossom photos to welcome springtime. This friend is Nini from NerdlyBeautiful, who graces us with her vintage looks and awesome take on color and style. The three of us embarked on an adventure to look for the blossoming cherry trees in the University of Washington Quad, and gosh did we find some real beauty there! Before I dive into more details, I do want to mention something very important. You’ve probably already heard a lot about the attacks in Belgium this week, and even though this is not the only terrible act of violence in the world, it is as despicable and intolerable as any other attack on human lives and society itself. We’re going through rough times though, and what we don’t need right now is more hatred, especially towards someone from a different culture, religion, race, or ideology. I would invite everyone to at least be conscious about this, and avoid spreading more hate or misinformation through social media, which is very powerful, and send a message of love and understanding instead.
Moving on to today’s post, and to happier thoughts, there’s really no place like Seattle when it comes to welcoming spring. It’s probably the increasing amount of daylight that can be felt every day, or the ceasing of the rain (occasionally!) after the long winter months. But perhaps one of the things I like the most about Seattle in spring is how it renovates itself as if it were preparing for a new year. And one example of this wonderful renovation is the one that cherry trees go through during the middle of March. This ephemera of a spectacle is only viewable for a few weeks, before the cherry flowers fall again and the tree starts to grow its fruit. There’s a thin line between the trees being completely covered in these gorgeous blossoms and them being gone, and this makes it an even more appealing thing to see for the citizens of Seattle.
For our cherry blossoms adventures, Kim, Nini, and I decided to go for three very different, distinctive looks of what’s about to come in trends during next season. In these photos, Kim is delighting us in a full skirt, high-waisted floral dress that looks as if it had been made out of a beautiful postcard. The stark contrast between a cooler, deep purple and more eye-popping, lively-colored flowers is giving this a modern art look and feel, and we’re loving it! She paired this masterpiece with some golden pumps and a gorgeous pair of vintage sunglasses to bring the 80s vibe back to the game. Nini, on the other side, is also wearing a floral dress, but hers is more loose and has more subtle differences in colors. The soft, sheer pink fabric is contrasting with a print that reminisces that of Japanese prints in red and black, giving it a very bold yet easy vibe. She styled this with a bright red coat and a black hat, along with her Oxfords, which complement the dress in a beautiful way and gives the whole look a very 50s touch. Both girls are giving us complete, beautiful spring outfits in her own personal styles, and bringing forward two eras that are going to be extremely important during this season.
For my spring outfit, I also decided to wear a very bold, colorful outfit with vibes from two different eras. The tweed jacket and tie give this a very professor-like, old school feel, with the colors being very neutral and soft. However, the undergarments in yellow and olive green give this a very modern approach that feels very now (these two colors are trending a lot for spring in menswear) and finally, the wacky, super colorful scarf just pulls the whole outfit together while playing with dimension and color at the same time. And finally my leather portfolio gives this a very European ca. 1940s-1950s touch, which contrasts really well especially in the brick stairwell by the gardens. What do you people think? ¡Hola, hola amigos míos! La entrada en la serie El y Ella del día de hoy es muy especial, ya que esta vez no sólo presentamos a la increíble Kim de HelloKimWin, sino que introducimos a otra amiga nuestra muy especial en esta hermosa colección de fotos con árboles de cerezas para recibir a la primavera. Esta amiga es Nini de NerdlyBeautiful, quien nos deleita con sus looks vintage y con un don para el color y el estilo inigualable. Los tres nos embarcamos en una aventura para buscar los árboles de cerezas en flor en la explanada principal de la Universidad de Washington, y ¡oh sí que encontramos mucha belleza en ese lugar! Antes de que ahonde en más detalles, sí quisiera mencionar algo importante. Probablemente han escuchado ya bastante esta semana sobre los ataques en Bélgica, y aunque este no es el único acto terrible de violencia en el mundo, es tan repudiable e intolerable como cualquier otro ataque a vidas humanas y a la sociedad en general. Estamos pasando por tiempos díficiles, y lo que no necesitamos en este momento es más odio, especialmente a alguien de una cultura, religión, raza o ideología diferente. Quisiera invitarlos a todos a por lo menos estar más conscientes y a evitar esparcir más odio o información errónea a través de las redes sociales, las cuales son muy poderosas, para en vez enviar un mensaje de amor y entendimiento.
Volviendo al post de hoy (y a pensamientos más felices) en verdad siento que no hay lugar como Seattle cuando se trata de darle la bienvenida a la primavera. Probablemente se deba al incremento en luz solar día con día, o a por fin el cese de las lluvias (¡de vez en cuando!) después de los largos meses de invierno. Sin embargo, una de las cosas que más me gusta sobre Seattle en primavera es cómo se renueva a sí misma como si se preparara para empezar un nuevo año. Y un ejemplo de esta asombrosa renovación es aquel que viven los árboles de cereza a mediados de marzo. Este efímero espéctaculo sólo es visible durante un par de semanas, antes de que las flores de cereza se vuelvan a caer y que el árbol empiece a crecer sus frutos. Hay una línea muy delgada entre cuando los árboles están cubiertos de estos botones hermosos a cuando se van por completo, y esto lo hace todavía más atractivo para los habitantes de la ciudad.
Para nuestras aventuras con los árboles de cerezas, Kim, Nini y yo decidimos vestirnos en tres maneras muy diferentes de lo que estará por venir en esta temporada. En estas fotos, Kim nos deleita con un vestido floral, de cintura alta y una falda estructurada que parece como si hubiera sido construido de una hermosa postal. El contraste fuerte entre el tono más frío, color morado oscuro del vestido con las flores en tonos vibrantes que llaman más la atención, le da una sensación como de arte moderno a esta prenda, ¡y eso nos encanta! Ella combinó esta obra de arte con unos zapatos dorados y un par de lentes de sol vintage para dar un aire como de los años 80s. Nini, por otro lado, también está portando un vestido floral, pero el suyo es un poco más suelto y tiene unas ligeras diferencias en colores. El tono rosado suave del vestido contrasta con un estampado que nos recuerda a las estampas japonesas en tonos rojos y negros, dándole una vibra más fuerte pero aún sencilla. Ella complementó este vestido con un abrigo color rojo vivo y un sombrero negro, que junto a sus Oxfords, le da a todo el look un aire como de los años 50s. Las dos nos están enseñando looks completamente primaverales, cada una en su estilo muy particular, y además nos recuerdan dos eras que van a ser muy importantes en esta temporada.
Para mi outfit primaveral, también decidí vestir algo muy colorido y vibrante en combinación de dos eras diferentes. El saco de lana y la corbata le dan a este look un feeling como de profesor de antaño, dado que los colores son muy neutrales y suaves. Sin embargo, lo que me puse debajo del saco en tonos amarillos y verde olivo le dan un toque mucho más moderno y se siente más reciente (estos dos colores van a venir bastante en la ropa masculina en temporada de primavera) y finalmente, la bufanda súper colorida y un poco alocada une todo el outfit mientras juega con la dimensión y el color al mismo tiempo. Finalmente, mi portafolios de piel le da a esto un toque muy europeo como de los años 40s o 50s, lo cual contrasta muy bien especialmente en la escalera de ladrillo cerca de los jardines. ¿Qué opinan? ¿Les gustá mi outfit o el de alguna de mis amigas?
