28 Years and Counting

Happy Wednesday, my Geek Q’ers! Today is a very special day, not only because it’s my birthday, but because I was reminded that I’m surrounded by a lot of wonderful people and that my friends and family are the most valuable thing I have in my life. I feel really fortunate to also have a good job, and live in a beautiful city; even to be able to share my thoughts and posts with you guys makes me feel extremely grateful. However there’s nothing you have that can compare to the people that surround you and the connections that you build with them. Today, on my 28th birthday, I feel that I’ve come a long way in building these relationships and I can’t wait to see what the future holds ahead for me and for these amazing treasures I have in my life. And I also want to thank you all for being on this journey with me as I continue growing as a friend, as a professional, as a blogger, and as a human being in general.

For this post, I had in mind to do a “back to school” look, since the interns are gone and most students are going back to their classes at the moment (some might already be a few weeks into the new school year/semester, some are just starting in September). So I got ready to meet my super amazing, blogger BFF Kim for taking some outfit shots, catch up on our recent adventures (she was in Vietnam for a few weeks and her trip photos looked incredibly awesome, check out some of them here and here) and just have a good time as always. However, to my surprise, Kim had the most perfect accessory (and early birthday gift!) for me and it became the centerpiece of this outfit instantly. This Giorgio Armani bag that she brought back from her trip to Asia is everything! The black leather is extremely pretty and it looks sophisticated and chic, making it the perfect complement to the look I was already wearing (we were SOO connected on this day, it’s like if we had read each other’s mind).

The rest of the outfit is really simple, but I think it works out really well for going back to school (even though I had my last one about 5 years ago). I decided to pair up a black polo from Topman with these patterned, white shorts from Club Monaco. I’m also wearing an Armani Exchange hat (another coincidence, Kim we were on fire that day!) and my Clarks wallabee boots. The messenger bag fits the outfit like a glove, and I think I will make really good use of this during my recruiting trip to Mexico. I now have where to put my Surface while traveling! Again I want to thank Kim for the most thoughtful, perfect-style-matching gift and for taking these photos, which I love! I’m so glad to be able to call you my friend and I look forward to what the next year has in store for us (it was also our friendaversary a few days ago with the river float, time flies so quickly!).

So that’s it for now! I’m going to continue getting ready for my trip to Mexico, which I’m super stoked about. It will be my first time recruiting at my alma mater so I’m really excited and I can’t wait to find lots of good talent, which I know there is more than enough. It is still very warm in Monterrey (95F+ are waiting for me in the most humid, rainy month of the year) so I’ll show you in the next post what’s the best way for dressing in such an environment. Again I want to thank all my readers for continuing to support me with this project, which is only possible because of you being the best audience I could imagine having, and I’m looking with positive eyes to what this year has waiting for me in all levels in my life. ¡Feliz miércoles, mis Geek Q’ers! Hoy es un día muy especial, no solamente porque es mi cumpleaños, sino porque también fui recordado una vez más de la gran cantidad de personas increíbles que me rodean y que mi familia y amigos son lo más valioso que poseo en esta vida. Me siento muy afortunado también de tener un buen trabajo, y de vivir en una hermosa ciudad; inclusive el poder compartir mis pensamientos y mis fotos con ustedes me hace sentir extremadamente agradecido. Sin embargo, nada se puede comparar con las personas que te rodean y las conexiones que has hecho con estas personas con el paso del tiempo. Hoy, en mi cumpleaños número 28, siento que he recorrido ya un largo camino al construir estas relaciones y no puedo esperar por ver lo que el futuro tiene preparado para mí y estos grandes tesoros que tengo en mi vida. Y por supuesto muchas gracias a ustedes por estar junto a mí en este recorrido y por ayudarme a crecer como amigo, como profesionista, como blogger, y como ser humano en general.

Para este post tenía en mente hacer algo relacionado con el regreso a clases, ya que los interns se han ido y la mayoría de los estudiantes están por volver a la escuela en este momento (algunos de ustedes probablemente ya llevan un par de semanas en el nuevo año/semestre, mientras que otros están por empezar en septiembre). Así que me preparé para reunirme con mi súper increíble, blog BFF Kim para tomar unas fotos con nuestros outfits, ponernos al corriente en nuestras más recientes aventuras (Kim estuvo en Vietnam un par de semanas y las fotos de su viaje están impresionantes, pueden ver algunas aquí y aquí) y pasar un buen rato juntos. Grata fue mi sorpresa al ver que Kim traía consigo el accesorio perfecto (y regalo de cumpleaños adelantado) para mí y este se convirtió en el punto focal de mi look al instante. ¡Este bolso Giorgio Armani que me trajo de su viaje a Asia lo es todo! La piel negra se ve y se siente exquisita y se ve muy sofisticado y chic, convirtiéndolo en el complemento perfecto para el atuendo que ya traía puesto (estuvimos TAN conectados este día, como si nos hubiéramos leído la mente el uno al otro).

El resto del outfit es muy sencillo, pero siento que funciona muy bien para el regreso a clases (aunque mi último regreso a clases fue hace como 5 años). Decidí ponerme una polo negra de Topman con unos shorts blancos con patrón de cuadros de Club Monaco. También estoy vistiendo una gorra de Armani Exchange (otra coincidencia, Kim ¡¿cómo pasó esto?!) y mis zapatos wallabee Clarks. El bolso le quedó como anillo al dedo a este look, y creo que le daré un muy buen uso durante mi viaje de reclutamiento en México. ¡Ahora ya tengo dónde poner mi Surface cuando viaje! ¿Qué opinan? ¿Qué es lo que más los tiene emocionados de volver a la escuela? Una vez más quisiera agradecer a mi amiga Kim por este regalo tan bien pensado y que combina perfectamente con mi estilo, y por haber tomado estas fotografías, que qué puedo decir, me encantaron. Me siento muy feliz de poder llamarte mi amiga y quiero ver que nos depara el siguiente año (cumplimos un año de ser amigos hace un par de días con el river float, ¡el tiempo sí que vuela!).

Eso es todo por hoy chicos. Por ahora, seguiré alistándome para el viaje a México, el cual me tiene muy emocionado. Será la primera vez que reclutaré en mi alma máter, así que estoy muy contento y no puedo esperar para encontrar mucho talento, el cual sé que sobra. Todavía hace mucho calor en Monterrey (me esperan días de más de 35 grados en el mes más húmedo y lluvioso del año) así que les mostraré en el siguiente post cuál es la mejor forma de vestirse en ese tipo de climas. Una vez más quisiera agradecer a todos mis lectores por continuar apoyándome en este proyecto, el cual sólo es posible gracias a ustedes que son la mejor audiencia que podría imaginar, y veo con buenos ojos lo que este año tiene en puerta para mí en todos los niveles en mi vida.
