Cool for the Summer

Happy Wednesday everyone! After a little break from fashion posts I’ve decided to go back to the regular, day-to-day outfit shots, which are kind of my specialty and what I love to write about. Either way thanks to everyone for your great response to my last post, I know many of you enjoyed that and your comments were amazing. These past few days have been really good actually, probably my favorite out of the whole year. It hasn’t been that hot lately (we even had a few thunderstorms last Friday which rattled the PNW and brought much-needed rain) and the days are starting to get shorter. We’ve lost almost 2 hours of daylight here in Seattle since summer started! However, even as things start to wind down we still have one last stretch of heat and sunny days before fall starts, so let’s try to make the most out of them, although I must say I’m super excited for fall to arrive.

As I said before, last week was pretty eventful. It all started on Monday, when we celebrated the shipping of Windows 10 at work. We had an amazing party where we participated in multiple Olympiad-style events to gain points for our teams. I participated in the Lip Synch competition and we won by performing a Bollywood song in front of a crowd. Then, they topped the evening with a private Macklemore and Ryan Lewis concert, which was AWESOME. Some other concerts I attended both Monday and Tuesday include Milky Chance, Walk The Moon, and George Ezra. They were all really good! Then on Thursday I finally received my Green Card in the mail. This was so exciting and I felt really happy, because after 4 and a half years I no longer need a visa to stay in the US. It has some other perks, but that’s the one that matters to me the most. It also made me think about the journey I’ve lived by moving to Seattle from Mexico and everything I’ve done since. I feel really fortunate to have a good job and to have made lots of great friends along the way. Don’t get me wrong, I’m super happy at my job and currently I don’t have any plans of changing that. I’m just excited to see what the future holds ahead for me, but it’s good to take sometime to reflect on the past and be grateful for where you are right now.

Let’s talk now about my outfit here, which I wore the other day when we were supposed to hit 90 again, but we fell a bit short. It’s a very fresh combination of a chambray shirt that I picked from Topman in my trip to Vancouver almost 3 weeks ago with a tank top that I grabbed from J Crew when it went on sale for the 4th of July weekend. This look works really well almost for any informal occasion and you can take off the shirt if it gets too hot when you’re outside in the sun and you’ll be sporting a nice beach look. I paired these with some shorts and boat shoes, and my sunnies from the Day of Caring event which feature the skyline of the city of Seattle on the frame. They became one of my favorite accessories this summer, and I’ve been wearing them with lots of beach outfits lately. What do you guys think? Does this make me too cool for the summer? I leave you today, not before telling you that I’m really looking forward to next week, because my birthday is coming! I’ll be turning 28 on Wednesday (can you believe that? Time flies so quickly!), and you can place a bet that I’m going to wear something really cool for my birthday, so just keep posted. I’m also excited because I’m traveling to Mexico the first week of September, since I’ll be recruiting in my hometown Monterrey. I haven’t been there since March, and I’m pretty stoked of having a great weekend with friends and family. It will most likely be super hot as well, so I’ll be prepared for the extreme heat. So lots of things still going on before the end of summer, and of course, lots of content that I have in store just for you guys here on Geek Q, so keep posted and thank you for reading and commenting. ¡Feliz miércoles a todos! Después de un pequeño break en los posts de moda he decidido regresar a las tomas rutinarias de mi atuendo día a día, lo cual es mi especialidad y de lo que más me gusta escribir. De cualquier forma, quisiera agradecerles a todos por su respuesta a mi último post, el cual se que muchos de ustedes disfrutaron y sus comentarios fueron increíbles. Estos últimos días han sido muy buenos, probablemente mis favoritos en todo el año. Ya no ha estado haciendo tanto calor últimamente (inclusive tuvimos un par de tormentas el viernes pasado que azotaron el Pacífico Noroeste y trajeron mucha lluvia que se necesitaba) y los días se han empezado a acortar. ¡Ya casi perdimos 2 horas de luz solar aquí en Seattle desde que comenzó el verano! No obstante, mientras las cosas se calman un poco nos queda todavía una última dosis de calor y días soleados antes de que empiece el otoño, así que intentemos sacar lo mejor de ellos, aunque debo admitir que estoy muy emocionado por la llegada del otoño.

Como les platicaba anteriormente, la semana pasada estuvo llena de eventos importantes. Todo comenzó el lunes, cuando celebramos el lanzamiento de Windows 10 en el trabajo. Tuvimos una fiesta increíble donde participamos en múltiples eventos estilo Olimpiadas para ganar puntos para nuestros equipos. Yo participé en la competencia de Lip Synch y ganamos al presentar una canción de Bollywood frente a un grupo de espectadores. Después, el evento culminó con un concierto privado de Macklemore y Ryan Lewis, lo cual estuvo GENIAL. Algunos otros conciertos a los que fui entre lunes y martes incluyen a Milky Chance, Walk The Moon y George Ezra. ¡Todos estuvieron muy buenos! Luego el jueves finalmente recibí mi Green Card en el correo. Esto fue muy emocionante y me sentí muy feliz, pues al fin después de 4 años y medio ya no necesito de una visa para permanecer en Estados Unidos. Tiene algunos otros beneficios, pero ese es el que más me importa. También me hizo pensar en la aventura que ha sido el dejar México para mudarme a Seattle y todo lo que he hecho desde que tomé esa decisión. Me siento muy afortunado de tener el trabajo que tengo y de haber hecho las grandes amistades que poseo en el camino. No me malinterpreten, me encanta mi trabajo y por ahora no tengo planes en cambiar eso. Sólo estoy emocionado por ver que me depara en el futuro y es bueno tomarnos un tiempo para reflexionar sobre el pasado y sentirnos agradecidos por dónde estamos y cómo llegamos aquí.

Hablemos ahora de mi outfit aquí, el cual me puse el otro día cuando se suponía que íbamos a llegar a 32 grados una vez más, pero nos quedamos tantito cortos. Es una combinación muy fresca de una camisa tipo chambray que agarré en Topman en mi viaje a Vancouver hace casi 3 semanas con una camiseta sin mangas que tomé en J Crew en descuento el fin del 4 de julio. Este look funciona muy bien para casi cualquier ocasión informal y puedes quitarte la camisa si empieza a hacer mucho calor cuando estás afuera en el sol, y terminas luciendo un look más playero. Complementé éstas con unos shorts y zapatos de lanchero, y con mis lentes de sol del Day of Caring, los cuales tienen un dibujo del skyline de Seattle en las patas del marco. Se han convertido ya en uno de mis accesorios favoritos del verano y me los he puesto con bastantes atuendos de playa. ¿Qué opinan chicos? ¿Me veo lo suficientemente cool para este verano? Quisiera agradecer a mi roommate Carlos por tomar estas fotografías. Últimamente esta pared de madera afuera de la casa se ha vuelto de mis favoritas como fondo para mis fotos.

Los dejo por hoy, no sin antes mencionarles que ya quiero que sea la próxima semana, ¡ya que mi cumpleaños se acerca! Estaré cumpliendo 28 años el miércoles próximo (¿pueden creerlo? El tiempo sí que vuela) y pueden apostar a que voy a vestir algo muy padre para mi cumpleaños, sólo manténganse al pendiente. También estoy emocionado porque viajaré a México la primera semana de septiembre para reclutar en mi alma máter en Monterrey. No he estado en Monterrey desde marzo, así que ya estoy saboreando un rico fin de semana con familiares y amigos. Probablemente haga mucho calor, así que ya estoy preparándome para las temperaturas extremas. Como pueden ver todavía hay muchos eventos antes de que se termine el verano, y por supuesto, mucho contenido que les tengo planeado sólo aquí en Geek Q, así que manténganse al tanto y muchas gracias por leer y por dejar sus comentarios.
