Warm Summer Pastels

Hi everybody! Happy Hump Day! I don’t know about you guys, but I’m feeling pretty summery already here in the Pacific Northwest. It’s kicked-in full throttle lately, with the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets one could ever imagine. And with all these colors and palettes Mother Nature has been gifting us, I’ve been struggling to find a suiting color scheme for my daily wear. That made me dig deep in my closet and drawers to try to decide what was the color that I’m going to wear the most during the summer, and after an extensive search of shirts, shorts, and pants, I think I finally found what’s going to be my staple this year: warm summer pastels.

There’s something really soothing and relaxed about warm summer pastels. I mean, during the rest of the year, Seattle is in a desperate need for color, since it’s usually very cloudy and the trees lose their leaves. However, during the summer everything is different, the sun is shining, the trees are in full bloom, and there’s not a need for going with something super colorful; nature has provided us with that already. Plus, the sun has the power of amplifying any color because color comes from light, so even the slightest shades of blues or the most delicate yellows will be way brighter once the sun starts hitting them.

Take for instance, this ensemble I decided to wear the other day for my meet up with Kim. Instead of going for a bright, brick red I went with a more subtle, salmon shirt with long sleeves rolled up. Then for the shorts, look how cool it pairs up with these lime green chino shorts from J. Crew. I completed the outfit with a pair of brown loafers and my white-framed sunnies. See what I mean? The contrast between these light colors with the strong, bright green background and the sunlight works perfectly in this situation, as would any combination of pastels during the summer months. ¡Hola a todo el mundo! ¡Feliz mitad de semana! No sé ustedes, pero últimamente me he sentido muy veraniego aquí en el Pacífico Noroeste. Y es que el verano ha llegado por completo, con los más hermosos amaneceres y atardeceres que pudieran imaginar. Y con todos estos colores y matices que la Madre Naturaleza nos ha estado regalando, he tenido problemas a la hora de elegir un patrón de colores para mi vestimenta del día a día. Eso me llevó a adentrarme en mi clóset y cajones para encontrar qué color voy a vestir más este verano, y tras una extensiva búsqueda de camisas, pantalones, y shorts, finalmente encontré lo que será el emblema para mí está temporada: los tonos pasteles de verano.

Hay algo que tienen los tonos pasteles que transmiten mucha calma y relajación. Y pues durante el resto del año, Seattle necesita fuertemente del color en la ropa, ya que usualmente está nublado y los árboles pierden sus hojas. Sin embargo, durante el verano todo es diferente, el sol brilla, los árboles están en máximo esplendor, y en realidad, no existe la necesidad de agregar mucho color; la naturaleza ya se ha encargado de proveerlos. Más aún, el sol tiene el poder de amplificar los tonos porque el color viene de la luz, por lo tanto, el más ligero de los azules o el más delicado de los amarillos se verá mucho más brillante cuando el sol les esté pegando.

Tomemos, por ejemplo, este atuendo que decidí ponerme el otro día para mi reunión con Kim. En vez de irme por un color rojo vivo en la camisa, opté por vestir este tono color salmón mucho más sutil con las mangas dobladas hacia arriba. Después para los shorts, vean lo bien que se le ven estos shorts color lima de J. Crew. Completé el outfit con mi par de mocasines cafés y estos lentes de sol blancos. ¿Ven a lo que me refiero? El contraste entre estos tonos pálidos con el fondo verde fuerte y brillante funciona de maravilla en esta situación, como lo haría cualquier combinación de colores pasteles en los meses de verano. Muchas gracias Kim por estas increíbles tomas. Estoy muy emocionado por como salieron y estoy muy contento de haberme podido reunir contigo antes de tu viaje.
