Hello my fashionable readers! Another month has gone by, and we’ve passed the first half of the year already. So fast, isn’t it? Well, July has arrived, and it is a pretty important month here in the US and also in Canada. July 1st is Canada Day (happy Canada Day to all my Canadian readers out there!) and July 4th is Independence Day for the United States. These are very important celebrations for both nations. Canada Day celebrates the unification of Canada as a country within the United Kingdom, which happened on July 1st, 1867. That’s why so many people refer to it popularly as “Canada’s Birthday”. On Fourth of July, the United States celebrates the day when the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th, 1774. On that day the Thirteen Colonies officially separated from Great Britain, creating the United States of America. It is also popularly known as “America’s Birthday”.
Having all these national celebrations really brought me thoughts about my holidays in Mexico, and how much I miss spending a holiday in my home country. Don’t get me wrong, I’m super happy for being able to have fulfilled my dream of living in the US. Just this past week actually I completed the last step of the process of getting my Green Card. That means very soon I’ll be a permanent resident and I won’t need a visa! However, it’s always good to go back to your roots and think about your own cultural background. It’s good to embrace other cultures and to assimilate the traditions of where we live, but we should never forget where we come from and what brought us here to this point. It’s just something to be grateful for, and in my case, I’m super proud of my Mexican heritage. And even though I’ll definitely enjoy the fireworks, grill some burgers, and shout “Happy birthday ‘Murica” I still miss the Mexican traditions, such as the “Grito de Independencia” on September 16th.
For this post, I wanted to show you some pics I shot the other day in the Seattle Arboretum. This place is absolutely amazing, and it’s just a few blocks away from my new house. The Arboretum is a park that lies right in the heart of Madison Valley and Capitol Hill. It’s so beautiful and diverse; there are both really tall, green pine trees and some drier grounds with grasslands and trails as well. I was gallivanting the other day and I spotted this nice place with wheat stalks and spiky long grasses that really inspired me to take pictures bathed in the summer sunlight. I decided to wear my t-shirt once more from Jeremiah Clothing and these brown, khaki shorts from J. Crew. Pairing those with some nice leather desert boots and a leather belt made me feel like a real ranger. I mean, look at these pics, this is one of my favorite combinations from my latter posts. ¡Hola mis lectores fashionistas! Otro mes más se nos ha ido, y ya estamos ahora sí en la segunda mitad del año. ¿Se nos fue rapidísimo, no creen? Bueno, pues ya es julio, y con él llegan muchas fechas importantes tanto aquí en Estados Unidos como en Canadá. El primero de julio es el día de Canadá (por cierto, ¡feliz día de Canadá a todos mis lectores canadienses!) y el cuatro de julio es el día de la Independencia de Estados Unidos. Estas son celebraciones muy importantes para ambas naciones. El día de Canadá celebra la unificación de Canadá como país dentro del Reino Unido, la cual sucedió el primero de julio de 1867. Es por esto que mucha gente se refiere a el como el “cumpleaños de Canadá”. El 4 de julio, los Estados Unidos celebran el día en que se firmó la Declaración de Independencia, el cuatro de julio de 1774. Ese día las Trece Colonias se separaron oficialmente de la Gran Bretaña, creando así a los Estados Unidos de América. Es también conocido popularmente como el “cumpleaños de Estados Unidos”.
El vivir todas estas celebraciones nacionales me trajo muchos recuerdos de los días feriados en México, y de cuánto extraño pasar un asueto en mi país natal. No me malinterpreten, estoy muy feliz de haber podido realizar mi sueño de vivir en Estados Unidos. Tan sólo esta semana que acaba de pasar terminé el último de los pasos para obtener mi Green Card. Eso significa que muy pronto seré un residente permanente y ya no voy a necesitar de una visa. Sin embargo, se siente bien regresar a las raíces de uno de vez en cuando para pensar en nuestro propio bagaje cultural. Es bueno aceptar la cultura y asimilar las tradiciones del lugar donde vivimos, pero es importante que nunca olvidemos de dónde venimos, que es la razón principal también de que estemos aquí en un comienzo. Es algo de lo que nos debemos sentir agradecidos, y que en mi caso, me siento muy orgulloso de tener mi herencia mexicana. Y aunque definitivamente voy a disfrutar de los juegos pirotécnicos, asaré hamburguesas, y gritaré “feliz cumpleaños América” aun extrañaré mis tradiciones mexicanas, como dar el “Grito de Independencia” el 16 de septiembre.
En este post, quiero enseñarles las fotos que tomé el otro día en el arborétum en Seattle. Este lugar es impresionante, y se encuentra a tan sólo un par de cuadras de mi nueva casa. El arborétum es un parque que se encuentra justo en el corazón de Madison Valley y Capitol Hill. Es increíblemente hermoso y diverso; tiene tanto altos y verdes pinos como tierras más secas con pastos de diferentes tipos y veredas. Estaba paseando por ahí el otro día y encontré este lugar con largas espigas de trigo y zacates altos donde brillaba fuertemente el sol, y me inspiró a tomar estas fotografías bañadas en el sol del verano. Decidí ponerme mi camisa de Jeremiah Clothing una vez más, junto con estos shorts café claro de J. Crew. Combinando estos dos con mis botas de piel y con un cinto de piel me hizo sentir como un verdadero ranger. Digo vean estas fotos, esta es una de mis combinaciones favoritas en los últimos posts. ¿Ustedes que opinan? ¿Están de acuerdo conmigo? Muchas gracias a mi roomie Carlos por tomar estas fotografías.

Será la primera vez que veré los fuegos artificiales desde la azotea de mi nueva casa, así que estoy muy emocionado.
