7 Years (The Romp-him)

Hello my friends! Today’s post has a very important meaning to me because March 21st is not only the beginning of spring (and my cat Luke Skywalker’s birthday) but this year it is also my 7th anniversary in Seattle. That’s right, it was 7 years ago that I decided to move from my hometown of Monterrey, Mexico to the beautiful Emerald City, which I now feel really proud to call my home. Think of it, it’s almost 25% of my life (I’m 30 now) that I have been in the United States, and even though I miss my family and friends a lot, I’ve really come to love how my life has turned out to be. I’m lucky to call my Seattle friends my new family, I have a good job that I feel really passionate about and which really motivates me to get up every day in the cusp of new challenges, and I have you, my readers, and my blog as an outlet for my creativity and a platform to share my ideas with other people. For all of that I feel really grateful, and I’m sure that the next few years hold for me way more adventures, learnings, and much more love.

For this post, I want to talk about spring outfits, since it’s the season that we just started yesterday. I’ve been saving this post for a while because let’s face it, no one wants to see a spring outfit during the fall or winter (which is when I actually did this photoshoot during my trip to Costa Rica a few months ago). So I decided to postpone it until I felt it was more appropriate, and what better way to showcase a floral romper than during the spring. This year florals are back in the mix for springwear, and as the iconic Miranda Priestly once said on The Devil Wears Prada movie, “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” Well that’s not completely the case here, because the trend that has been picking up lately is slightly different for two reasons. One is color, because bold, bright colors like yellow, orange, and green are coming strong (yes, even in florals) and the other is the size of the print, where the bigger the better, that is just a simple way to put it.

That’s why for my trip to Costa Rica, I decided I was going to go all-in with this loud, colorful printed romper I got from Festiful. Festiful is a brand that is being sold by Amazon, and their whole shtick is to bring new menswear design and prints to the table for rompers. That’s why when I saw this romper online I told myself “you need to have this!” and what better way to showcase it than in the beautiful, sandy beaches of Turtle Island, in Costa Rica. One thing that I really liked about his piece is how functional it is, because it can easily be put on and off due to its stretchiness. I also really like the design, and it even could work as a shirt if you put some pants on top of the shorts, so it has versatility to it. For the accessories, I went for a white hat from H&M and my Havaianas sandals, with a pair of sunnies to top the look. What do you guys think? Well that’s it for today my friends! It’s been an amazing 7 years so far and I can wait to see what the future holds ahead for me. Something that I can say that I’ve learned through experience is that nothing feels as good as home, and for now, Seattle is and will always be my home. After 7 years you get to really appreciate the people you’re surrounded by, the experiences you go through each day, and the lessons you learn from those experiences. And yes, even though there might be some problems sometimes and you might miss some things about your previous town, there’s always an opportunity to discover something new and to keep being amazed by your own new home. ¡Hola amigos míos! El post del día de hoy tiene un valor muy importante para mí ya que el 21 de marzo no es sólo el día en que comienza la primavera (y el cumpleaños de mi gato Luke Skywalker) pero también es mi séptimo aniversario en Seattle. Así es, fue hace 7 años exactos que decidí mudarme de mi nativa ciudad de Monterrey, México a la bella Ciudad Esmeralda, la cual con orgullo puedo llamar mi hogar. Piénsenlo, es ya casi el 25% de mi vida (tengo 30 años ahorita) que he vivido en los Estados Unidos y, aunque extraño mucho a mi familia y amigos, realmente estoy encantado con cómo se ha dado mi vida. Me siento muy afortunado de poder llamar a mis amigos en Seattle mi nueva familia, tengo un trabajo muy bueno que realmente me apasiona y que siento que me motiva a levantarme de la cama día con día para enfrentar nuevos retos y, los tengo a ustedes, mis lectores, y a este blog como un escape para mi creatividad y una plataforma para compartir mis ideas con otras personas. Por todo eso y mucho más estoy muy agradecido, y estoy seguro que los próximos años tienen para mí más aventuras, más aprendizaje y mucho amor.

Para este post, quisiera hablar sobre outfits para primavera, ya que es la temporada que apenas comenzamos el día de ayer. He estado guardando esto por un tiempo ya que, aceptémoslo, nadie quiere ver un atuendo primaveral en otoño o invierno (que es precisamente cuando hice este photoshoot) durante mi viaje a Costa Rica hace un par de meses. Así que decidí posponerlo hasta que sintiera que es más apropiado, y que mejor forma de lucir un rómper floral que durante la primavera. Este año los estampados florales están de regreso en la ropa de temporada, y como la icónica Miranda Priestly dijo alguna vez en la película El Diablo Viste a la Moda: “¿Estampados florales? ¿Para primavera? ¡Qué novedad!” Y bueno, ese no es el caso aquí ya que las tendencias florales que están resurgiendo este año son diferentes por dos razones. Una de ellas son los colores, ya que los colores brillantes y llamativos como son el amarillo, el naranja y el verde están muy de moda (sí, aún en estampado floral) y el otro es el tamaño del estampado, donde no hay reglas este año; entre más grande, mejor.

Es por esto que para mi viaje a Costa Rica, decidí que iba a poner todas las cartas sobre la mesa con este rómper estampado muy colorido que compré de la marca Festiful. Festiful es una marca que está siendo comercializada actualmente por Amazon, y su idea es traer nuevos estilos de diseño para moda masculina y nuevos estampados. Es por esto que cuando vi este rómper en línea me dije a mí mismo “¡tienes que tenerlo!” y que mejor manera de lucirlo que en las hermosas playas llenas de arena de la Isla Tortuga en Costa Rica. Algo que me gustó mucho de esta prenda es que es extremadamente funcional, ya que te la puedes poner y quitar muy fácilmente debido a que la tela se expande un poco. Me gustó mucho el diseño además, y puedes ponértelo como una camisa, por ejemplo, si te pones pantalones encima de los shorts, así que tiene algo de versatilidad. Para los accesorios, me puse un sombrero blanco de H&M junto con mis sandalias Havaianas, y un par de lentes de sol completaron el look. ¿Qué opinan amigos? ¿Creen que puedo seguir usando este rómper en la temporada primavera/verano? Quisiera agradecerle a mi hermana por tomar estas fotos en el grandioso escenario que es Costa Rica.

Bueno eso es todo por hoy amigos. Han sido 7 años increíbles hasta ahora y no puedo esperar por ver lo que el futuro me depara. Algo que sí puedo decir que he aprendido por experiencia es que no hay lugar como el hogar, y por ahra, Seattle es y seguirá siendo mi hogar. Después de 7 años realmente empiezas a apreciar a toda la gente que te rodea, las experiencias que vives al día a día y las lecciones que aprendes de dichas experiencias. Y sí, aunque en ocasiones pueda haber problemas y sientas que extrañas demasiadas cosas de tu ciudad natal, siempre hay una oportunidad por descubrir algo nuevo y sentirte sorprendido por la que es tu nueva casa. La próxima vez les voy a platicar de una colaboración de los Seattle Gents con algunas marcas locales, así que manténganse al pendiente del blog para saber qué está haciendo este grupo de influencers de ropa masculina que con gusto puedo llamar mis amigos.
