Hello, hello my dedicated, loyal, and friendly readers! How is everyone’s week going so far? Mine has been pretty busy, but I just want to say that it felt good to spend last weekend completely in Seattle after so much traveling. I was able to catch up with a lot of people during that time, celebrate a few (belated) birthdays from some of my best friends, and even go to the Seahawks game on Sunday and watch the Hawks destroy the 49ers. As you guys know, I was in Mexico quite a few times this last month, 3 times to be precise. Previously, I had shown you both my photos from the wedding in Cabo I attended in August and the first batch of my Mexico City photos in the beautiful ancient ruins of Teotihuacan, the City of the Gods.
Today, I want to share with you another batch of photos from Mexico City, this time shot at a very well-known, gorgeous castle right in the heart of the city: the Castillo de Chapultepec. This exquisite palace, whose name means “at the grasshopper’s hill” sits atop the mountain that shares its name in Bosque de Chapultepec, and was erected in the 1700s as a stately home to the Spanish Viceroys in the name of the Spanish Crown. It was abandoned during the Mexican Independence, and it came back to use for the Second Mexican Empire, where both Emperor Maximilian of Habsburg and wife Empress Carlota enjoyed its facilities as a home and for political reunions. The last famous occupants of the extravagant stronghold were President Porfirio Diaz and his wife Carmen Romano, right before the Mexican Revolution sparked during the early 20th Century. Nowadays, the castle is seat of the National Museum of History and attracts thousands of tourists every year to the old construction near Paseo de la Reforma Avenue, which is sometimes compared to that of Paris’s Champs Elysees.
For my visit to Chapultepec Castle, I decided to wear a summer-appropriate, flowery outfit comprised of a blue and white floral shirt from Topman along with some dark denim shorts from H&M. I really liked how these colors contrasted with each other in a very similar way to that of the floor of the Chapultepec Castle’s balconies, which are adorned in checkered black and white marble. The flowers in the shirt looked great next to the huge flower arrangements with the beautiful city in the background. For the accessories, I opted in carrying a leather man purse, or tote as they call them now so popularly, from 21 Men, along with my Topman sunglasses. For the shoes, I went for white sneakers to top the look. Overall I felt this was a great outfit for such a luxurious, embellished building and the photos came out great, thank you Arturo for shooting them all on a lovely and cloudy summer afternoon.
That’s going to be it for the day. As you can see, there are some awesome, really beautiful places right in the middle of highly-urbanized Mexico City. It’s incredible to see what a thousand years made in difference, from the ancient ruins from my previous CDMX post to this colonial jewel, and how much culture this city has to offer. That’s why it’s one of my favorites in the world. Next time, we’ll be switching gears once again to more fall outfits, and then it will be time for Seattle Fashion Week. ¡Hola, hola, mis dedicados, leales y amigables lectores! ¿Qué tal va la semana de cada uno de ustedes? La mía ha estado bastante ocupada, pero sólo quiero decir que se sintió bien el haber pasado el fin de semana pasado en su totalidad en Seattle después de tanto viaje. Tuve la oportunidad de hacer catch-up con muchos de mis amigos en ese tiempo, celebrar algunos cumpleaños (ya un poco atrasados) de varios de mis mejores amigos e inclusive pude ir al juego de los Seahawks el domingo para ver a mis Hawks destruir a los 49s. Como ustedes ya saben, he viajado a México en muchas ocasiones este último mes, 3 veces para ser preciso. Previamente, les había mostrado tanto las fotos de la boda en Cabo San Lucas, a la que fui en agosto, y la primera sesión de fotos en la Ciudad de México en las hermosas y antiguas ruinas de la Ciudad de Teotihuacán, la Ciudad de los Dioses.
El día de hoy, les quiero compartir una sesión de fotos más en el Distrito Federal, esta vez situadas en un conocido y bello castillo que se encuentra justo en el corazón de la ciudad: el Castillo de Chapultepec. Este exquisito palacio, cuyo nombre significa “al pie del monte del chapulín” está ubicado sobre la colina que comparte su nombre en el Bosque de Chapultepec, y fue eregido en los años 1700s como hogar de estadía para los virreyes españoles en nombre de la corona española. Fue abandonado durante la Guerra de Independencia de México y se volvió a utilizar durante el Segundo Imperio Mexicano, donde el Emperador Maximiliano de Habsburgo y su esposa la Emperatriz Carlota disfrutaron de sus facilidades como casa habitación y para hacer sus reuniones políticas. Los últimos habitantes famosos de la extravagante fortaleza fueron el Presidente Porfirio Díaz y su esposa Carmen Romano, justo antes de que se desatara la Revolución Mexicana a inicios del siglo XX. Hoy en día, el castillo da lugar al Museo Nacional de Historia y atrae miles de turistas al año a esa vieja construcción cerca de la Avenida Paseo de la Reforma, la cual es en ocasiones comparada con los Campos Eliseos de París.
Para mi visita al Castillo de Chapultepec, decidí ponerme un atuendo apropiado para el verano, muy florido, que consistió en una camisa blanca con azul floral de Topman junto con unos shorts en mezclilla oscura de H&M. Realmente me gustó como contrastaron los colores entre estos dos de una forma muy similar al constraste del piso de los balcones del Castillo de Chapultepec, los cuales están adornados en cuadrículas blanco y negro de mármol. Las flores de la camisa se veían increíbles junto a los enormes arreglos florales y la hermosa ciudad de fondo. Para los accesorios, opté por usar un bolso de piel para hombres, muy de moda llamado tote, de 21 Men junto con mis lentes de sol de Topman. Para los zapatos, me puse mis tenis blancos para completar el look. En general, siento que este outfit se vio muy bien en un edificio tan lujoso y elegante; las fotografías salieron perfectas. Gracias a mi amigo Arturo por haberlas tomado en una hermosa y nublada tarde de verano.
Eso será todo por el día de hoy. Como pueden ver, hay muchos lugares muy impresionantes y hermosos justo en el centro de una ciudad tan urbanizada como la Ciudad de México. Es increíble el ver lo que unos mil años hacen de diferencia, de las ruinas antiguas de mi último post sobre la CDMX a esta joya colonial, y el ver cuanta cultura esta ciudad tiene por ofrecer; es lo que la hace una de mis ciudades favoritas en el mundo entero. La próxima vez, estaré cambiando de estación una vez más con mis atuendos para el otoño, y después al fin dará cita Seattle Fashion Week. Esperen mucho más acerca de ese evento próximamente en el blog.
