The Miracle Mile

Hello my readers! Another busy week has gone by, and with it comes another blog post of one of my multiple 2016 small weekend getaways. These short 2-day trips have been fueling my energy all year long, and as unexpected as they may come, they have also been a really good opportunity to get to know other places in the US. This last weekend, my getaway wasn’t to a new city, but to my dearly beautiful LA, which I’ve been to 4 times this year to-date. The city of Los Angeles can never bore me, and never ceases to amaze me. This time I was there for a special live concert of The Little Mermaid, which was nothing short of incredible. I was there with my really good friend Arturo and we had an amazing time when visiting the city. From great brunch places to rooftop bars and new restaurants we wanted to try out, we definitely had a blast on this brief yet really fun trip.

Today’s post is dedicated to one area of Los Angeles in particular which is really popular and has some really cool things to do. The Miracle Mile is a stretch of 1.5 miles in West Los Angeles, situated on Wilshire Boulevard within Fairfax and Highland Avenues full of delicious food, street art, museums, and parks. Our walk started after having brunch at Republique, a French-style restaurant in La Brea Avenue with amazing, Instagram-worthy food and tasty French desserts. From there on, we started walking on Wilshire the famous Miracle Mile. We saw along the way the gorgeous El Rey theater, where Haley Reinhart (one of my favorite singers and the should-have-been-winner of season 10 of Americal Idol IMHO) is going to offer a concert, might be coming back sooner than I expected. Then we stumbled upon the SAG-AFTRA Plaza, which might remind you of the SAG awards and is indeed home to the SAG foundation offices. You can see how the streets here are decorated with beautiful hanging gardens, palm trees, and a wide array of both old and newer architecture, which is something I really liked about this area.

The walk ends at the La Brea Tar Pits and the LACMA museum, which you might remember from my Urban Lights post back in January. This occasion I had more time though, so I took a look at other famous art pieces in the museum, like the Spaghetti curtain and some stairs that lead to the famous lamp post collection. At night, we tried out some of the bars in downtown LA, where we went to the two amazing rooftop bars: The rooftop bar at The Ace Hotel and The Perch by Pershing Square. Both had an incredible view of the skyline of downtown Los Angeles and very nice drinks and music. The next day, we went to a famous restaurant in Abbot Kinney Road by Venice Beach called Gjelina, which was definitely worth the half an hour wait line. The food was delicious! For this trip, I decided to wear a very summery outfit since it was close to 80s both days, comprised of a gray Henley from Club Monaco and some shorts from Topman. That’s going to be it for the day. In general, my trip to LA was, as always, a delightful experience and I’m looking forward to visiting the city more times this year. This weekend is the SIFF Closing Gala (after more than 3 weeks of movies the festival is sadly coming to an end) and I’ll be attending the famous SIFF party at the MoHAI with my friends. I’m really excited, and after seeing a ton of movies this year I must say that the Golden Space Needle Award is definitely going to be a close race. I have a few other things at hand right now, but I’ll tell you all about them when the time comes closer to posting. For now, I’m enjoying the beautiful summer weather here in Seattle and I’m excited to continue creating style posts for you my readers. ¡Hola mis lectores! Una semana ajetreada más que se nos va en el año y con ella llega por supuesto otro post más en mi blog sobre mis múltiples pequeñas escapadas de fin de semana de este 2016. Estos viajes cortos de dos días han estado llenándome de energía durante todo el año, y aunque algunos de ellos fueron algo inesperados, han sido una excelente oportunidad para conocer otras partes de los Estados Unidos. Este fin de semana, mi escapada no fue a una nueva ciudad, sino a mi amada y hermosa Los Ángeles, a la cual ya he ido cuatro veces en lo que va de este año sólamente. La Ciudad de Los Ángeles nunca me aburre y tampoco termina de sorprenderme. En esta ocasión fui para presenciar un concierto en vivo de La Sirenita, el cual estuvo absolutamente increíble. Viajé con mi buen amigo Arturo y nos la pasamos fenomenal visitando LA. Desde asombrosos lugares para tomar el brunch hasta bares en las azoteas de edificios y restaurantes nuevos que queríamos probar, este viaje corto pero divertido fue lo máximo.

El post de hoy está dedicado a un área en particular de Los Ángeles que es muy popular y que tiene muchas cosas que ver y hacer ahí. La Miracle Mile (o Milla Milagro) es un recorrido de apróximadamente 2.4 kilómetros que se encuentra en el oeste de Los Ángeles, situado en Wilshire Boulevard entre Fairfax y Highland Avenues, que contiene deliciosos lugares para comer, arte urbano, museos y parques. Nuestro camino comenzó después de comer brunch en Republique, un restaurante estilo francés en La Brea Avenue con un increíble menú lleno de comida digna para Instagram y exquisitos postres franceses. De ahí, caminamos sobre Wilshire la famosa Miracle Mile. Vimos durante el recorrido al hermoso teatro El Rey, donde Haley Reinhart (una de mis cantantes favoritas y quien en mi opinión fue la campeona sin corona de la temporada 10 de American Idol) estará ofreciendo un concierto, igual y regreso más pronto de lo que creí. Después nos topamos con la plaza SAG-AFTRA, que puede que les recuerde a los premios SAG y es de hecho la casa de las oficinas de la fundación SAG. Como pueden observar, las calles aquí están decoradas con hermosos jardines colgantes, palmeras y una amplia gama de arquitectura tanto moderna como más antigua, lo cual me encanta de esta zona. 

El camino termina en las fosas de chapopote en La Brea y el museo LACMA, el cual puede que recuerden de mi post Urban Lights de principios de enero. En esta ocasión tuvimos más tiempo para visitarlo, entonces vimos otras piezas famosas del museo como la cortina de spaghetti y las escaleras que llevan a la famosa colección de lámparas. En la noche, probamos algunos de los bares en el centro de la ciudad, donde visitamos dos bares de azotea increíbles: el bar en la azotea del Ace Hotel y The Perch cerca de Pershing Square. Los dos tenían una vista increíble del skyline del centro de Los Ángeles y muy buena música y ambiente. Al día siguiente, fuimos al famoso restaurante Gjelina ubicado en la calle Abbot Kinney en Venice Beach, el cual valió totalmente los 30 minutos de espera en la fila. ¡La comida estaba suculenta! Para este viaje, decidí portar un look bastante veraniego ya que estaba a casi 30 grados los dos días del viaje, conformado por una camiseta gris tipo Henley de Club Monaco y unos shorts de Topman. ¿Qué les parece? ¿Es este outfit lo suficientemente cool para caminar por algunas de las atracciones más famosas de la ciudad? Quisiera agradecer a mi amigo Arturo por haber tomado estas fotografías, ¡me encantaron! Y gracias por haberme invitado a un viaje tan divertido.

Eso es todo el día de hoy. En general, mi viaje a Los Ángeles fue, como siempre, una experiencia muy especial y espero poder visitar la ciudad una vez más antes de que acabe el año. Este fin de semana será la ceremonia de clausura del SIFF (después de más de 3 semanas de películas el festival tristemente llega a su fin) y estaré asistiendo a la famosa fiesta de clausura del SIFF en el MoHAI con mis amigos. Estoy muy emocionado, y después de ver bastantes películas en el festival, presiento que la carrera por el Golden Space Needle Award va a estar bastante cerrada este año. Tengo otros planes en pie a su vez, pero les estaré platicando sobre estos conforme se acerquen las fechas para que aparezcan en el blog. Por ahora, seguiré disfrutando del verano en Seattle y seguiré entusiastamente publicando para ustedes mis posts de estilo.
