The City of Glass

Hello folks! How are you all today? Before focusing on today’s post I wanted to thank each and everyone of you for showing such great support to me in the last post. I would have never imagined that a non-fashion related post in my blog would become so popular! It’s really good to see the enthusiasm towards something that I also feel very passionate about (my career in technology) and that I could share a bit of what I have learned over the years with you for everyone’s advantage. It feels amazing to read your comments and see first-hand how something as simple as this blog could potentially change someone’s life. That makes me incredibly humbled so I want to thank you all deeply for giving me that opportunity by being such a wonderful audience.

Today I finally bring you the photos from my trip to Vancouver, BC early this year with some of my best friends during one of our two new holidays we got. Vancouver is one of my favorite cities in the world. It’s beautiful skyline, with all it’s tall glass skyscrapers and the amazing mountain ranges that surround it, make a really pretty view from almost any angle you look at it. It’s also one of the top fashion capitals of the world, being the most fashionable city in Canada and taking a great advantage from its multi-cultural population, since about 50% of its population is comprised of minority groups (being Chinese, South Asians, Filipino, and Latin American the most representative of these). That makes of Vancouver a very diverse environment where the arts, sports, and media (including fashion) have thrived to make it one of the top 5 most livable cities in terms of quality of life. This cultural diversity can be observed mostly in the neighborhoods of Granville and Yaletown, where a lot of really good restaurants, theaters, boutiques, and art shops are located. These two are my favorite areas of the city, so make sure you check them out if you find yourself here in the nearby future.

For wandering around the City of Glass (it received this nickname because of the steel and glass architecture that can be seen all over downtown Vancouver) I decided to go with a very sporty look comprised of an overgrown sweatshirt and a pair of military green chinos. This sweatshirt from Topman has some really nice detail in leather and neoprene that I love, because of its subtleness but also how it adds a lot of attitude to the outfit. The military green pants have become a staple for me during this winter, and I decided to wear these with my duckboots since Vancouver gets as much rain as we do in Seattle, and indeed it rained a lot while we where there. Once again my Chrome Industries camera bag was really handy to stroll around and carry everything that I needed with me and I topped the look with my Brixton hat. What do you think? ¡Hola a todos! ¿Cómo están el día de hoy? Antes de enfocarme en el post de hoy quisiera agradecerle a todos y cada uno de ustedes por demostrarme tanto apoyo en el último post. ¡Jamás hubiera imaginado que un artículo no relacionado con la moda tendría tanta popularidad en mi blog! Me encanta ver el entusiasmo que mostraron ante un tema por el cual siento una pasión enorme (mi carrera en la tecnología) y que pude compartir con ustedes aunque sea un poquito de lo que he aprendido a lo largo de los años para beneficio de todos. Se siente increíble leer sus comentarios y ver de primera mano como algo tan simple como este blog podría afectar la vida de alguien para siempre. Eso me hace sentir muy honrado de tenerlos como audiencia y hoy quisiera agradecerles como no tienen idea por ser la mejor que pudiera pedir.

Hoy al fin les traigo las fotos de mi viaje a Vancouver, BC a principios de este año junto a varios de mis mejores amigos en uno de los nuevos asuetos que nos dieron este año. Vancouver es una de mis ciudades favoritas en el mundo. Su bello skyline, con todos esos rascacielos de vidrio y las increíbles motañas que la rodean, hacen de un bello paisaje desde casi cualquier ángulo de la ciudad. También es una de las grandes capitales de la moda en el mundo, siendo la ciudad más importante en términos de moda en todo Canadá y tomando una gran ventaja de su población multicultural (donde gente de China, el sureste asiático, Filipinas y América Latina son las más representativas de esta pluralidad). Esto hace de Vancouver un ambiente extremadamente diverso donde las artes, los deportes y los medios (incluyendo la moda) se han cultivado para hacer de esta una de las 5 ciudades con mejor calidad de vida en el mundo. Esta diversidad cultural se puede apreciar principalmente en los barrios de Granville y Yaletown, donde se dan lugar a restaurantes, teatros, boutiques y tiendas de arte. Estas son mis dos áreas favoritas en la ciudad, así que asegúrense de darse una vuelta por ahí si se encuentran cerca en el futuro próximo.

Para pasear alrededor de la Ciudad de Vidrio (recibe este sobrenombre por las estructuras de acero y vidrio que se pueden ver ubicuamente en el centro de Vancouver) opté por un look bastante deportivo conformado principalmente por una sudadera larga y por un par de chinos color verde militar. Esta sudadera de Topman tiene unos detalles muy padres en piel y neopreno que me fascinan, porque le agregan bastante actitud al outfit de una forma muy sútil. Los pantalones verde militar se han convertido en un estandarte para mi vestimenta este invierno y decidí ponerme este atuendo con mis botas de lluvia dado que en Vancouver llueve tanto como en Seattle, y en verdad que nos llovió cuando estuvimos ahí. Una vez más mi mochila para la cámara de Chrome Industries me fue indispensable para cargar con todo lo que necesitaba a la mano y terminé el look con mi gorra Brixton. ¿Qué opinan? ¿Cuáles son sus ciudades favoritas a visitar en términos de diversidad y encanto?
