His & Hers: A Classic New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve is that day of the year when we reflect on the experiences we lived over the last 365 days and think about what we want our next year to look like. For instance, last year, I was writing to you from nowhere else than the modern fashion capital of the world that is NYC and I was thinking about all the positive things that had happened during that year. I was just starting with my blog but I already had plenty of looks to share with you; and if there’s one thing that I really wanted to do during 2015 was to travel more and to expand my blogging horizons beyond my circle of friends. I’m happy to say that I was very fortunate to be able to accomplish both, and next year my goals are even more ambitious, but I’ll leave the next post for that. Today I just want to think about what happened in 2015 because it was a rollercoaster of a year but I definitely enjoyed the ride.

Starting a few weeks ago, my blogger girlfriend Kim and I (this is officially our new title and I love it!) started collaborating in a few joint posts, that I must say, have been more successful and popular than what I originally thought! I don’t know why it took us so long before starting doing this! Since New Year’s Eve is that day of the year when you can dress as fancy as possible and look super sparkling and glam, Kim and I decided to make one last joint photo shoot together for 2015 and today I present you the results. I’m quite pleased of having a person like her in my life, and I’m already looking forward to doing more posts like this in the future, since we coordinate so well together! Just to say that the initial joint post wasn’t even planned but it came from our matching outfits and color palettes that day; saying we look good together is an understatement of how in sync we are style-related.

Let’s take for instance, the two outfits we decided to wear to celebrate in advance the arrival of the New Year. Here Kim is going all-in rocking a sparkly, gold sequin dress worn as a top, because let’s face it, you can never be wearing too much sequins on a NYE outfit and they give an ultra girly, glittery look. I like how Kim contrasted such a colorful, lively top with a black, flared skirt, giving so much volume on the bottom of the dress and creating her statement A-line figure. Kim always takes the versatility of a piece into account, and this dress is an excellent example of a garment that can be worn under multiple circumstances and still look amazing. To complement such a classic look Kim paired these with her double-ankle strap pointed toe pumps, giving this whole outfit a very exuberant, sophisticated vibe. Girls, what do you think? For my New Year’s outfit, I decided to wear my pants and suit from the blogversary post a few weeks ago, but this time, I used a gold tie instead of a bow tie. I wanted to provide some extra color to the whole look, so I also paired this gold tie with a polka-dot pocket square. Pocket squares are a great option for adding that little thought-provoking aspect to a suit-and-tie combination, and there’s almost no way of getting it wrong since it doesn’t need to match the tie. Actually I preferred my tie to match Kim’s dress to provide a bit of cohesion between the two looks. I topped this look with a striped fedora hat from H&M, I mean, if there’s a day when you can wear this it’s NYE. And finally, my J.Crew tribal socks and some black shoes from Aldo complete the look. Do you like how I combined the different patterns on the tie, pocket square, and hat? We shot these photos at the UW campus on a very windy day, but I really like how they turned out.

Well there you go guys, another year of blogging goes by, and with it goes another year that was full of great memories with friends, amazing new places to discover, and a lot of fashionable outfits that I have been able to share with you, my readers. From my first collaboration with a well-known brand, to my first joint post, to the creation of the Fashion Bloggers who Tech, if I have to describe 2015 in one word it is definitely “connecting” and putting myself out there. It was a great year for getting to know other people in the blogging community and start building relationships that I hope last for a very long time. For next year, the word that pops to mind is “influencing”, so I want to increase my reach to more people and also start collaborating more with other bloggers and brands, solidify my current base of readers, and start having a bigger impact in the fashion industry. That’s something I really like about blogging: there’s always so much room to grow and I know that with you by my side I will always continue improving my craft and learning along the way by doing the thing I love the most, sharing my personal style and love for fashion. I’m sure 2016 will bring me a stronger voice and more people to listen to it. Till next year!

La noche de Año Nuevo es aquella fecha del año en que reflexionamos sobre las experiencias que hemos vivido en los últimos 365 días y pensamos acerca de cómo queremos que se vea nuestro próximo año. Por ejemplo, el año pasado, les estaba escribiendo ni más ni menos que desde la capital mundial moderna de la moda que es Nueva York y pensaba sobre todas las cosas positivas que habían pasado ese año. Estaba empezando apenas con mi blog pero ya tenía un buen número de looks sobre qué trabajar; y si había una cosa que realmente quería lograr en el 2015 era viajar más y expandir mis horizontes de blogging más allá de mi círculo de amigos. Estoy muy contento en decir que fui muy afortunado de poder cumplir las dos metas, y para el siguiente año mis propósitos son todavía más ambiciosos, pero eso se los dejaré para el siguiente post. Por ahora, sólo quiero recordar todo lo que pasó en el 2015 porque fue una montaña rusa de vivencias donde definitivamente disfruté el recorrido.

Hace apenas unas semanas, mi novia bloggera Kim y yo (este es oficialmente nuestro nuevo título y me encanta) empezamos a colaborar en un par de posts en conjunto, que debo mencionar, fueron más exitosos y populares de lo que originalmente habría imaginado. ¡No se por qué nos tomó tanto tiempo en empezar a hacer esto! Dado que el día de Año Nuevo es aquél en que te puedes vestir tan elegante como sea posible y puede uno verse radiante y glamoroso, Kim y yo decidimos hacer una última sesión en conjunto para cerrar el año con broche de oro y el día de hoy les presento los resultados. Estoy muy contento de haber encontrado a una persona como ella en mi vida, y estoy muy emocionado por seguir haciendo posts de este estilo en un futuro, ¡dado que nos coordinamos muy bien! Sólo basta con decir que el primero de estos ni siquiera fue planeado y surgió porque ambos vestíamos los mismos colores y tonos; no puedo explicar lo sincronizados que estamos cuando de estilo se trata.

Tomemos, por ejemplo, los dos outfits que decidimos ponernos para celebrar por adelantado la llegada del Año Nuevo. Aquí Kim se fue con todo vistiendo un vestido radiante de lentejuelas doradas como blusa, porque aceptémoslo, nunca puedes estar vistiendo demasiadas lentejuelas en un atuendo de Año Nuevo y le dan un toque muy femenino y brilloso. Me gusta como Kim contrastó una blusa tan viva y colorida con una falda abultada negra, dándole mucho volumen a la parte de abajo del vestido y creando su ya simbólica línea A. Kim siempre piensa en la versatilidad de una pieza cuando la va a comprar, y este vestido es un excelente ejemplo de una prenda que se puede vestir bajo circunstancias distintas y se sigue viendo bien. Para complementar un look clásico, Kim lo completó con sus zapatos de punta con doble cinta en el tobillo, dándole a este outfit una vibra exuberante y sofisticada. ¿Qué opinan chicas? Para mi atuendo de Año Nuevo, decidí ponerme el pantalón de traje y saco que me puse para el cumpleaños de mi blog hace algunas semanas, pero esta vez, utilicé una corbata dorada en vez de un moño. Quería proveer de un poco de color a todo el look, entonces emparejé esta corbata dorada con un pañuelo azul con puntos blancos. Los pañuelos son una excelente opción para añadir ese pequeño aspecto que llame la atención a una combinación de traje y corbata, y casi no hay forma de equivocarse al elegirlo ya que no tiene que ser igual que la corbata. De hecho, preferí que mi corbata combinara con el vestido de Kim para proveer un sentido de cohesión entre los dos atuendos. Mejoré este look con un sombrero de copa de H&M, digo, si hay un día en que puedo ponérmelo es en Año Nuevo. Y por último, mis calcetines tribales de J. Crew y unos zapatos negros de Aldo completaron el look. ¿Les gusta como he combinado los diferentes patrones en la corbata, el pañuelo y el sombrero? Tomamos estas fotos en el campus de UW en un día con mucho viento, pero me gusta mucho como salieron.

Pues ahí tienen, otro año más de blogging ha pasado, y con él, se va otro gran año lleno de recuerdos con amigos, increíbles lugares que descubrí y muchos outfits a la moda que pude compartir con ustedes, mis lectores. Desde mi primera colaboración con una marca reconocida, hasta mi primer post en conjunto, a la creación del grupo Fashion Bloggers who Tech, si podría describir el 2015 en una palabra esta sería “conexión” definitivamente al empezar a darme a conocer en la red. Fue un buen año para relacionarme con otras personas en la comunidad del blogging y para empezar a fomentar amistades que espero duren mucho tiempo. Para el siguiente año, la palabra que viene a mi mente es “influencia”, así que quiero incrementar mi alcance a más personas y también empezar a colaborar con otros bloggers y marcas, solidificar mi base de lectores actual y empezar a tener mayor impacto en la industria de la moda. Eso es algo que me gusta mucho acerca del blogging: siempre hay muchísimo espacio para crecer y sé que teniéndolos a ustedes a mi lado voy a mejorar lo que hago y aprender sobre la marcha haciendo lo que más me gusta, compartir mi estilo personal y mi amor por la moda. Estoy seguro de que el 2016 me traerá una voz más fuerte y más personas para escucharla. ¡Nos vemos el próximo año!
