(200) Days of Autumn

Hello my Geek Q’ers! As I mentioned in my last post, I’m back on weekly posts and this time I don’t intend to take a break from here until the end of the year maybe, so thanks for bearing with me and showing such an amazing support on the last entry. As you all know, I’m a huge fan of fall, and that’s really good when you live in a place like Seattle. Think about it, we have in average around 200 days of rain or mist during one year (that’s around 1 out of every 2 days) and we have around 300 cloudy or partly cloudy days. The only exception is our amazing, 2-month (usually from July 4th to Labor Day) summer, which this year, however, started pretty early and extended about 1 more month. We broke every possible record this summer in the PNW including average temperatures, daily highs, daily lows, dry stretches, even wet periods (we had the wettest August ever) so this year has been one of extremes. And I for once couldn’t be happier to have back this cool, misty 60-degree weather.

On my last post, I wrote about the blazer or sport coat, which is an elemental piece of every fall wardrobe. Today I’m extending the fall-inspired outfits (I’m going to make this a fall series throughout the whole month of September in honor of fall) and I will talk about something that’s indispensable in every Seattleites closet: the raincoat. In a weather like ours it’s almost impossible to survive without a raincoat. I mean, as I mentioned before, it will rain half of the days in the year, especially during the fall and winter season, and it could happen anytime during the day, so you have to be prepared. It’s even more important than an umbrella (curiously people in Seattle don’t use an umbrella, that’s actually how you recognize tourists from out of town). It’s just an example of the PNW people and their character; they endure through toughness and difficulties the same way they endure the weather, you sometimes just have to live with it.

On these photos I’m showing my favorite raincoat which I got from Club Monaco last November on sale. It was about 2/3s of its original price, so it was a really good deal for that shop. What I love about it is how light and versatile it is. You can wear it with a button-down, like I did here, or with a sweater or sweatshirt, and it will still look good but most importantly feel good. It has a detachable hood, which is amazing, since as I told you, we don’t use umbrellas, and sometimes the rain does get a little heavy so you might want to protect your head. And it’s the perfect length: not too short, not too long, just the right length to be able to use the pockets as hand warmers too. Another fall piece which is coming back this season to the blog are my joggers! I have so many of them left from last year and in so many colors that I will be wearing them really often these upcoming months. I chose this burgundy pair because I love the color and they are super comfy. And finally we have the boots, to keep your feet dry and warm even when having to jump over water puddles. ¡Hola mis Geek Q’ers! Como les mencioné en mi post anterior, estoy de vuelta con los posts semanales y esta vez no pienso tomarme un descanso desde ahorita hasta que se acabe el año probablemente, así que gracias por ser pacientes conmigo y mostrarme tanto apoyo en la última entrada. No es sorpresa para ustedes que soy un gran fanático del otoño, y eso es algo muy bueno cuando vives en una ciudad como Seattle. Piénsenlo, tenemos en promedio alrededor de 200 días al año con lluvia o llovizna (eso es casi 1 de cada 2 días) y tenemos también cerca de 300 días nublados o medios nublados. La única excepción es durante nuestro increíble verano de 2 meses (que usualmente empieza el 4 de julio y termina por ahí de Labor Day), el cual este año se alargó un mes más puesto que empezó por ahí de junio. Hemos roto todos los récords posibles este verano en el Pacífico Noroeste incluyendo temperaturas promedio, máximas diarias, mínimas diarias, período de sequía, y hasta de lluvia (tuvimos el agosto más lluvioso en la historia) así que este año ha sido uno de extremos. Y yo no podría estar más feliz al volver a tener días frescos, lluviosos de 15 grados.

En mi último post, les escribí acerca del blázer o saco sport, el cual es una pieza fundamental en cualquier guardarropa de otoño. Esta vez extiendo la lista de outfits inspirados en el otoño (voy a hacer de esto una serie otoñal a través de todo el mes de septiembre en honor a esta temporada) y les voy a hablar acerca de un elemento que es indispensable en el closet de cualquier Seattleita: el impermeable. En un clima como el nuestro es casi imposible sobrevivir sin un impermeable. Digo, como les comentaba anteriormente, va a llover la mitad de los días en el año, especialmente durante la temporada otoño-invierno, y puede pasar en cualquier momento del día, entonces uno debe estar preparado. Es aún más importante que tener un paraguas (curiosamente la gente en Seattle no utiliza el paraguas, y es así como puedes reconocer a los turistas de fuera de la ciudad). Es tan sólo un ejemplo de la gente del PNW y su temple; están preparados para enfrentar la adversidad y las dificultades de la misma manera que enfrentan este clima, al cual hay que acostumbrarse a vivir en él.

En estas fotografías estoy mostrando mi impermeable favorito, el cual obtuve en Club Mónaco el pasado mes de noviembre en rebaja. Lo encontré a 2/3 de su precio original, lo cual es bastante bueno considerando la tienda. Lo que me encanta de esta prenda es lo ligera y versátil que es. Puedes utilizarla con una camisa de botones, como lo hice en esta ocasión, o con un suéter o sudadera, y se va a ver bien pero más importante aún se va a sentir bien. Tiene una gorra desprendible, la cual es lo máximo, ya que como les conté, no utilizamos paraguas y en ocasiones la lluvia se vuelve un poco más intensa, entonces vas a querer proteger tu cabeza de alguna manera. Además tiene el largo perfecto: no es demasiado corto ni tampoco demasiado largo, tiene la medida exacta para que puedas meter tus manos en los bolsillos si necesitas calentarlas. ¡Otra pieza del otoño que vuelve esta temporada al blog son los joggers! Tengo muchos que me quedaron del año pasado y en tantos colores que voy a estar usándolos regularmente esta temporada. Escogí estos color vino porque me encanta ese color y son súper cómodos. Y finalmente tenemos las botas, las cuales ayudan a mantener tus pies secos y cálidos aún cuando tienes que saltar sobre charcos de agua. ¿Qué opinan? ¿Les gusta este impermeable tanto como a mí? Nuevamente quiero agradecer a mi roommate Carlos por las fotos que me tomó en uno de los parques de Seattle.

Eso es todo por hoy. Como les dije, pienso extender la serie otoñal a través de todo el mes de septiembre, así que no se pierdan el siguiente post acerca de los accesorios de otoño (¡los cuales son mis favoritos también!) Tengo un par de sorpresas bajo la manga además que les mostraré muy pronto. Mi amiga y escritora fashionista Dona, de Fibonacci Sequins, va a escribir un perfil sobre mí en su blog en los próximos días. Estoy muy emocionado ya que ella es una de mis inspiraciones tanto de profesión como de vida en general, así que váyanse dando una vuelta por su blog y demuéstrenle un poco de cariño. Además así podrán saber un poquito más de mí, ya que como pueden ver, su blog es muy personal, anécdotico, sin dejar de lado el estilo y la moda, les va a encantar.
