Hello, hello, hello! I’m back!!! It does feel like it’s been forever since I last posted and I wasn’t really sure if I was ever going to do it again, but here we are and I’m more than thrilled to be back. A lot has happened in these past few years, we’re finally over the pandemic that caused the world to turn to a halt for almost three and a half years, I bought a house in Seattle and moved out of my old place, I’m still in the same job at Microsoft but working under a different team and area, and I’ve downsized my closet for the move but it has expanded again after a few key purchases. Overall, it’s been a great period for me to advance in my career, refocus on my passions and extracurriculars outside of work, and basically reinvent myself, and with that goes my style, clothes, and list of priorities too. All and all, I feel like I’m in the best point in my life yet (crazy to say this when things looked so blight for a while during the pandemic) and I’m reinvigorated and looking forward to what the next year has in store.
To bring back the blog, I debated on what I should write and post about, given that as a mid-to-late 30-year-old guy my sense of style and fashion has changed quite a bit over the last few years. But if there is a constant in my life that I’ve always enjoyed and loved it is getting dressed up for special occasions. That’s why I got really excited when I was contacted by MenSuits Co. to collaborate on a new piece for the upcoming holiday season. You see, people tend to think that suits are only for weddings or very formal events. However, suits can also be dressed up or dressed down accordingly based on the type of event, the accessories that go with it, and the way you style them. It’s one of the most versatile pieces of clothing in menswear that you can take advantage of, and I knew that I could do something nice with the great variety of suit options they have available on their online store.
I decided to go for a tan suit, which just by the color itself, is less formal than a black or a blue suit but still stands out quite well. You can call it a statement tone, since it will make you stand out but also look great in almost any type of weather or event. Since I was getting ready for a holiday party, I decided to add some cheer with some colorful and fun details, such as a burnt orange tie and cat-patterned socks. A tie is the best way to dress up or dress down the suit, making it an easy go-to for most special occasions, and this color is seasonal for fall and winter. I also opted in for brown leather boots for the shoe, since they are less formal but look great with this palette of neutrals and match the sunglasses really well. You could potentially try to dress it up with a black shoe, but then the belt and all leather accessories have to match as well. Finally, a white smartwatch with a leather band ties in the whole look, and there you go, you look cheerful and ready for any holiday event.
Another thing that makes this post special was working with a digital and social media agency, Wynn Creative Agency, for the first time. I want to personally thank Ashley Wynn for making me look like a thousand bucks in these photos we shot while in Tampa over the Thanksgiving weekend. She helped me choose the locations, which are the University of Tampa campus and The Oxford Exchange building and also helped me come up with the story behind the shoot, the pre-and-post editing of social media content, and basically everything that you see here; I wouldn’t have been able to do any of this without her help. Well my friends, I think that’s going to be it for today. I want to say that I’m extremely happy to be back and you can wait for more surprises coming up in 2025, so keep posted to the blog and also to my socials (all of the links have been updated and are present at the top of this post). I would also like to state that it’s important to chase one’s dreams and passions and sometimes to be able to do this you must take a step back to reflect and evolve. I think that I have done that over the last couple of years but I’m ready to keep sharing with you all my tips, knowledge, and sense of style that I’d been happy to share since I started this blog back in 2014. Yes, this is the ten-year anniversary (although with a little break in between) of Geek Q and I couldn’t be happier to bring it back to celebrate this momentous occasion and continue to share my thoughts on this small part of the Internet that I can call truly mine. ¡Hola, hola, hola! ¡He vuelto! En realidad se siente como si hubiera pasado una eternidad desde la última vez que escribí un post en este blog y la verdad es que no estaba muy seguro de si lo iba a volver a hacer, pero heme aquí y estoy más que contento de estar de vuelta. Muchísimas cosas han pasado en estos últimos años, finalmente acabamos con la pandemia que hizo que el mundo se detuviera por completo por casi tres años y medio, compré una casa en Seattle y me mudé de mi antiguo hogar, todavía trabajo para Microsoft aunque ahora estoy en un equipo y en un área distinta, y he reducido sobremanera el tamaño de mi guardarropa para la mudanza sólo para volver a expandirlo en algunas piezas clave que he adquirido más recientemente. En general, ha sido un gran período para mí para avanzar en mi carrera profesional, enfocarme en mis pasiones y extracurriculares fuera del trabajo y básicamente reinventarme, y con ello va también mi estilo, mi ropa, y mis prioridades. Con todo esto, siento que estoy en el mejor momento de mi vida hasta ahora (lo cual es increíble decir cuando por algún momento las cosas se vieron muy oscuras durante la pandemia) y me siento reinvigorado y con mucho optimismo por lo que el siguiente año tiene en pie.
Para traer al blog de vuelta, debatí conmigo mismo sobre qué tema debía tratar, dado que ya más avanzado en mis treintas mi sentido de estilo y de moda han cambiado drásticamente en estos últimos años. Pero si hay una constante en mi vida que siempre he disfrutado es el poder vestirme elegante para un evento especial. Es por esto que me emocioné bastante cuando fui contactado por MenSuits Co. para colaborar en un nuevo look para las fiestas decembrinas. Verán, la gente tiende a creer que los trajes sólo son útiles para bodas y eventos formales. Sin embargo, los trajes también se pueden adaptar y adecuar a la situación dependiendo del tipo de evento, gracias a los accesorios que uno viste y a la manera de organizarlos. El traje es una de las piezas más versátiles que los hombres podemos aprovechar para dar una gran impresión, y supe de inmediato que podía conformar un atuendo estelar con las opciones que tienen disponibles en su tienda en línea.
Opté por portar un traje en color desierto, que solo por el color en sí, ya es menos formal que un traje en color negro o azul pero que aún así logra sobresalir muy bien. Le podemos llamar un color statement, ya que te hará resaltar de buena manera y se verá increíble en cualquier tipo de clima o evento. Dado que me estaba arreglando para una posada, decidí agregar un poco de vida al look con algunos accesorios en diferentes colores, como por ejemplo, esta corbata en color naranja oxidado y las calcetas con patrón de gatos en un tono gris. Una corbata es la forma idónea de elevar o hacer que un outfit se vea más casual, haciéndola un elemento esencial para casi cualquier evento, y especialmente este color es perfecto para la temporada otoñal e invernal. También me decidí por utilizar unas botas de cuero en color café para el calzado, ya que son menos formales pero se ven increíbles con esta paleta de tonos neutros y le van muy bien a los lentes de sol. Potencialmente, podrían intentar elevar el nivel de formalidad vistiendo zapatos negros, pero entonces es necesario que el cinturón y todos los otros accesorios en piel también sean de ese color. Finalmente, un smartwatch con banda de cuero blanco completa el resto del atuendo, y listo, te ves increíble y muy ad hoc para cualquier fiesta decembrina.
Una cosa más que quisiera resaltar de este post que lo hace muy especial es que fue mi primera vez trabajando con una agencia de contenido digital, Wynn Creative Agency. Quisiera agradecer personalmente a Ashley Wynn por hacerme ver de a millón en estas fotografías las cuales tomamos en Tampa durante el puente del Día de Acción de Gracias. Bueno amigos eso es todo por el día de hoy. Quisiera recalcar que estoy extremadamente emocionado por estar de regreso aquí y que pueden esperar muchas sorpresas más en este 2025, así que mántenganse al tanto siguiendo al blog y a mí en mis redes sociales (todos los vínculos han sido actualizados y se encuentran en el encabezado). También quisiera hacer hincapié en lo importante que es perseguir nuestros sueños y pasiones y que algunas veces para continuar debemos hacer una pausa y reflexionar y evolucionar. Creo que he estado haciendo eso en estos últimos años pero estoy listo para seguir compartiendo mis consejos, conocimiento y sentido de estilo que les he compartido con felicidad desde el 2014. Así es, este es el décimo aniversario de Geek Q (aunque con una breve pausa en medio) y no podría estar más emocionado de celebrar este gran momento y compartir con ustedes mis pensamientos en esta pequeña parte del Internet que llamó mi hogar. Espero que todos tengan una temporada de fiestas de lujo y recuerden siempre hacer que los demás escuchen su voz.
