City of Stars

Hello my friends! It’s me back again reporting from a very rainy, and blustery Seattle day. This year in particular has been quite extreme in terms of weather changes. Just two weeks ago we had our first snow of the season in downtown Seattle (I know right?! So early in the season!) and then this week has been really gusty around here. Some areas of Capitol Hill even lost power during this last big storm, and today, well it just hasn’t stopped raining. If there’s something I have learned about Seattle and its ever-changing weather is that it is never boring, and this allows you for a lot of freedom in choosing your outfits. So I’ve been wearing all my layers lately, from colder weather coats and scarves to warmer weather rain jackets and windstoppers, and from sweaters, to long-sleeve, to sweatshirts, it’s been quite a ride.

However, today I want to reminisce about a city that has beautiful weather almost year-round, with blue skies and clear, starry nights: and that’s the city of Los Angeles. As you might remember I was in LA last month during a recruiting trip, and even though I was quite busy, that didn’t stop me from putting some time apart to do some photoshoots. You see, there’s a photographer in NYC called Nick Pierce that I had been following for quite a while and he was going to be in LA as well, so I contacted him and was super excited when he agreed to do a photoshoot. It was around this time last year that one of my favorite movies was released, and one of it main topics was life in the City of Angels. So for all of us “fools who dream” I decided to do a shoot inspired by the movie La La Land in one of its featured locations during the movie, the Griffith Observatory, and the results, well you can see them for yourselves down here.

For my shoot in the city where there’s always “another day of sun” I decided to wear a very neutral, matte gray suit from Topman that I had bought precisely in this same city. Light gray is one of my favorite colors, because it’s so easy to tone it up or tone it down; just choosing a different tie, or a different shirt, or even a different shoe color might make the whole deal. I paired this with a checkered gingham tie from Tommy Hilfiger, and a striped pocket square from J. Crew. Notice how I down-scaled the look a bit by wearing a brown belt and tan monk shoes, from Salvatore Ferragamo and Topman respectively, and I topped the look with my Burberry shades. Overall I think the color schema looked amazing in the beautiful, light corridors of the observatory, and I think the outfit pays a really good homage to the City of Stars. I also want to thank Nick big time for doing this amazing photoshoot with me and for translating all of my feelings about this city in these photographs. They’re like out of the movies!

¡Hola amigos! Soy yo de nuevo, reportándome desde un día muy ventoso y lluvioso en Seattle. Este año en particular ha sido una montaña rusa en términos de cambios en el clima. Hace tan sólo dos semanas tuvimos nuestra primera nevada de la temporada en el centro de Seattle (ya sé, ¿qué rápido, no?) y luego esta semana ha estado corriendo muy fuerte el viento en esta zona. Algunas áreas de Capitol Hill inclusive perdieron la luz durante esta última tormenta y bueno, el día de hoy tan sólo no ha dejado de llover. Si hay algo que he aprendido sobre Seattle y su clima siempre cambiante es que no te aburres, y esto permite que tengas mucha libertad al elegir tus outfits. Por ejemplo, he estado vistiendo todas mis capas últimamente, desde abrigos para climas más fríos y bufandas a chamarras para la lluvia mucho más ligeras y rompe vientos, de suéteres, a camisas de manga larga, a sudaderas, ha sido toda una odisea.

No obstante, el día de hoy quisiera recordar de tiempos en una ciudad que tiene un clima espectacular durante casi todo el año, con sus cielos azules y sus noches estrelladas y despejadas: esa es la ciudad de Los Ángeles. Como se acordarán, estuve en LA el mes pasado durante un viaje de reclutamiento y, aunque el viaje estuvo bastante ajetreado, eso no me detuvo de separar algo de mi tiempo para hacer un par de photoshoots. Verán, hay un fotógrafo en la ciudad de Nueva York llamado Nick Pierce que llevo ya un buen rato siguiendo y que vi que se iba a encontrar en LA ese fin de semana, así que lo contacté y me emocioné bastante cuando accedió a hacer una sesión de fotos conmigo. Fue alrededor de estas fechas pero del año pasado que una de mis películas favoritas hizo su estreno y uno de sus principales temas era reflejar cómo es la vida de los citadinos en la Ciudad de los Ángeles. Así que para todos esos “ilusos que sueñan” decidí hacer una sesión de fotos inspirada en la película La La Land en una de las locaciones que se presentan en la misma, el Observatorio Griffith, y los resultados, bueno los pueden ver ustedes mismos.

Para las fotografías en la ciudad donde siempre hay “un día más de sol” decidí vestir de forma neutra, un traje color gris matte que precisamente compré en Topman en esta misma ciudad. El color gris claro es uno de mis colores preferidos, ya que es muy fácil de subirlo o bajarlo de tono simplemente escogiendo una corbata distinta, u otra camisa, o inclusive un color diferente de zapato puede hacer el truco. Combiné este traje con una corbata de cuadritos de Tommy Hilfiger y un pañuelo rayado de J. Crew. Fíjense en cómo pude hacer que el look se viera un poco menos formal al vestirme con un cinto y zapatos color café, de Salvatore Ferragamo y Topman respectivamente y, completé el atuendo con mis lentes de sol Burberry. En general creo que el esquema de colores se vio increíble en los bellos e iluminados pasillos del observatorio, y creo que le rinde un buen homenaje a la Ciudad de las Estrellas. También quisiera agradecer y felicitar a Nick en grande por haber hecho este asombroso photoshoot conmigo y por traducir todos mis sentimientos sobre esta ciudad en estas fotografías. ¡Parece que salieron de una película!
