The Windy City

Hello friends! How has everyone been doing lately? After a short hiatus (didn’t write a post for last week) I’m back at the blog with more style posts. First of all, I just want to thank the beautiful, positive responses from my last entry. You guys showed great support to Nanie and her brand (thank you for that!) and you sent me very nice comments both here and on social media. I think it’s important to support our local designers because I believe they are the ones taking the most risks and are bringing fashion forward to a different level, so on that part that was awesome. I also think that being more inclusive and learning about other cultures is great, so thanks as well for the comments of approval and hopefully I can continue collaborating in the future with brands that borrow elements from other cultures.

As I had told you on that post as well, this weekend I was in Chicago for the first time to attend my friends Marc and Courtney’s wedding in the Windy City. My stay in the city was fantastic. We (my friend Valeria and I) stayed in an Airbnb in the West Loop (which is pretty close to downtown) which had an excellent location in terms of access and things to do around. Our experience with Airbnb was incredible, our hosts were really cool and we now have new friends in a different city. Another great thing about Chicago was the food, from the original deep dish pizza, to Portillo’s hot dogs, to amazing brunch restaurants, everything was just delicious! And without a doubt what I liked the most about this city was the architecture, which comprises an interesting mix of older, more traditional buildings, such as churches and castle-like structures, with more modern, towering skyscrapers, all in the same downtown area. If you’re looking for a nice, big city to get to know this summer definitely consider Chicago, I’m sure you’re going to enjoy it as much as I did.

Another really positive thing about our visit to Chicago was that the weather was gorgeous while we were there. The Midwest is known for having brutally cold winters and humid, hot summers, but in late spring the weather is just perfect. This allowed me to strut around the Windy City in shorts and t-shirts, which brings me to today’s outfit. I had been looking for a bomber jacket for a while, since they are super ‘in’ this season, and I luckily found this navy blue bomber at Topman and immediately fell in love. It’s a little light for winter, but it’s perfect for both spring and fall, and even summer sometimes which can get a little chilly at night. I wore this with a nice pair of faux leather shorts, also from Topman, which just gave the whole look a really edgy vibe, along with a navy hat and white sneakers. We shot these photos at beautiful Lake Michigan right by the Adler Planetarium, which has an amazing view of the Chicago skyline in the back. What do you guys think? The wedding was nothing short of perfect and their friends and families were all amazing to us. This weekend is a holiday (yay!) and I’m going to do my best staycation I possibly can by going to the Seattle International Film Festival, taking a few outfit shots for next week, and enjoy a relaxed weekend after a few busy weekends in a row. I’m excited about the movies I’m going to see and can’t wait to enjoy a weekend at home. I’m also rooting for my home team Monterrey to take the Mexican Soccer championship (we’re in the finals) and eager to see what happens in Game of Thrones after a shocking (but very good nonetheless) episode last Sunday. ¡Hola amigos! ¿Cómo les ha ido a todos últimamente? Después de un breve descanso (no escribí un post la semana pasada) estoy de vuelta en el blog con más posts de estilo. Primeramente, quisiera agradecerle a todos ustedes la respuesta tan hermosa y positiva a mi última entrada. Le demostraron mucho cariño y apoyo a Nanie y su marca (¡gracias por eso!) y me enviaron comentarios muy buenos tanto por aquí como en redes sociales. Creo que es importante que apoyemos a nuestros diseñadores locales porque pienso que son los que más están tomando riesgos y hacen que la moda avance a nuevos niveles, así que en ese sentido esto estuvo increíble. También opino que es bueno ser inclusivos y que aprender de otras culturas es algo importante, así que gracias por los comentarios de aprobación y esperemos que pueda continuar colaborando con marcas que abstraen elementos de otras culturas en un futuro.

Como les platiqué en ese mismo post, este fin de semana estuve en Chicago por primera vez para presenciar la boda de mis amigos Marc y Courtney en la ciudad ventosa. Mi estadía en la ciudad fue fantástica. Nosotros (mi amiga Valeria y yo) nos quedamos en un Airbnb en el West Loop (el cuál se encuentra muy cerca del centro de la ciudad), el cual estaba muy bien ubicado en términos de acceso y de cosas que hacer alrededor. Nuestra experiencia con Airbnb fue excelente, se las recomiendo bastante, ya que nuestros hosts se portaron de maravilla y pudimos hacer amigos en una ciudad distinta. Otra de las cosas que más me gustó de Chicago fue la comida, desde la original pizza estilo deep dish, a los hot dogs del restaurante Portillo’s, a excelentes restaurantes de brunch, ¡todo estaba delicioso! Pero sin duda alguna lo que más me gustó de esta ciudad fue la arquitectura, la cual comprende de una mezcla muy particular de edificios más antiguos y de estructura tradicional, como son iglesias y castillos, a rascacielos enormes y mucho más modernos, todos en la misma área del centro de la ciudad. Si están buscando un destino turístico interesante y popular para conocer este verano consideren Chicago entre sus opciones, estoy seguro que les encantará tanto como me gustó a mí.

Otra de las cosas positivas de nuestra visita a Chicago fue que nos tocó un clima espectacular durante nuestra estancia. El centro-norte de Estados Unidos es conocido por tener unos inviernos brutalmente fríos y veranos húmedos y calurosos, pero a finales de primavera el clima está perfecto. Esto me permitió caminar por la ciudad ventosa en shorts y camisetas de manga corta, lo cual me lleva al outfit del día de hoy. Tenía tiempo ya buscando una chamarra de bombardero, ya que están muy de moda en esta temporada, y afortunadamente me encontré esta chamarra azul marino en Topman e inmediatamente me enamoré de ella. Es un poco ligera para usar en invierno, pero perfecta para los entretiempos de primavera y otoño, y aún en verano te puede ser útil en una de esas noches más frescas. Me puse esta chamarra con un par de shorts de piel sintética, también de Topman, que ayudan a darle una vibra un poco más juvenil, junto con una gorra azul marino y mis tennis blancos. Tomamos estas fotos en las hermosas costas del lago Michigan junto al Planetario Adler, el cual tiene una vista increíble de los edificios de Chicago al fondo. ¿Qué opinan? ¿Listos para agregar la chamarra de bombardero a su guardarropa de primavera? Quisiera agradecerle a mi amiga Valeria por tomar estas fotos y por ser la mejor pareja de bodas que podría pedir.

¡Eso es todo por hoy! Antes de despedirme quisiera agradecer una vez más a Marc y Courtney por invitarnos a su boda y por compartir con nosotros tantos hermosos momentos este fin de semana. La boda salió a la perfección y tanto sus familiares como amigos se portaron muy bien con nosotros. Este fin de semana es de puente (¡yay!) y estaré disfrutando de mis vacaciones en casa de la mejor manera posible, asistiendo al Festival Internacional de Cine de Seattle, tomando fotos para la siguiente semana y disfrutando de un fin de semana de descanso en casa. También estaré apoyando desde lejos a mi equipo de futbol Monterrey en la final del futbol mexicano y estoy impaciente por ver qué sucede esta semana en Game of Thrones ya que sigo en shock por el traumante episodio de la semana pasada. Los dejo por ahora, no sin antes recordarles que se vistan con estilo y que dejen que los demás escuchen su voz. Nos vemos muy pronto con más posts de moda y estilo. ¡Hasta el próximo miércoles!
