Vintage Blossoms

Hello friends! Happy Hump Day! Before delving into today’s post, I want to thank you all for your amazing response to my last entry. You all responded really well here in the blog and all over my social media, and I really appreciate the nice comments and positive feedback. It was a real effort to prepare for that photoshoot and I’m super glad of the impact it had on you my readers; it is my deepest commitment to bring you the best quality content and to see that huge positive response literally means the world to me. Now, without much ado, let’s move on to today’s theme. Another week is gone and with it we’ve fully entered spring season here in the Pacific Northwest. It is a gorgeous time of the year, with trees starting to get back their lush green foliage, flowers blooming as if there was no tomorrow, and of course, more sunny afternoons and warmer days. And it has become a tradition already here on the blog to inaugurate the arrival of spring with a trip to the beautiful cherry blossoms in the University of Washington. This year’s winter delayed this trip though for a few weeks, but I’m happy to finally share with you this very special and traditional post.

My blog BFFerboo Kim and I have been doing this shoot for 3 consecutive years, and this time, we had the pleasure of being joined by Kasey as well. Kasey is Kim’s best friend, and they both attended the UW for computer science/electrical engineering, which is where they met. Nowadays, Kasey is a rockstar in every sense of the word. Not only is she an amazing Microsoft software engineer, but she’s also a part-time computer science teacher AND an incredible fashion icon. She has her own blog on STEM education, which I recommend you check it out, and on her own Instagram account she shows her deep passion for vintage style clothing and the great old days with her photos. That’s why when Kim told me that Kasey was going to join us this year for the cherry blossoms photoshoot I was elated, and I took her passion for vintage clothing as an inspiration for choosing my own outfit as well.

Here you can see me wearing a 1930s-inspired combination consisting of three main pieces. The brown chinos from All-Saints are joined by a dark charcoal wool jacket from Pull and Bear and a white long-sleeve shirt. This shirt is very special, because it’s a Mexican vintage shirt that I got at the Fonart store in Mexico City, and it was created using artisanal fabric. To be able to look good with or without the jacket, I added some suspenders from J. Crew and a gray beret hat from H&M. I wanted to look like a mix of Sebastian, Ryan Gosling’s character from La La Land, and Jack Kelly, the protagonist from the musical Newsies. I think the ensamble went really well with Kasey’s vintage mint-colored dress and short jacket look, and it complemented Kim’s rocker look of a white crop top and skirt with a denim jacket. This weekend I’m off to Southern California for another tradition of mine, the Coachella Music Festival. I’m super excited about the bands this year (just to mention a few, Radiohead, Bastille, Tove Lo, Lorde, Lady Gaga!) so I’m sure that I’ll have a blast. Plus, the extra warmth and couple of days basking in the sun will be good for me after this dreary month of March. Then by the end of April I’ll be traveling once again, but this time I’m going back home to Monterrey to see my family and friends, where we’ll do a family wine tour in a winery in northern Mexico. After what I experienced last year in Napa Valley I’m really looking forward to doing a wine tour in Mexico, and of course, you can expect tons of photos from Coachella and from Mexico here on the blog and on social media. ¡Hola amigos! ¡Feliz mitad de semana! Antes de adentrarme en el post del día de hoy, quisiera agradecerle a todos ustedes la increíble respuesta que tuvieron hacia mi último post. Todos respondieron sobremanera aquí en el blog y en todas mis redes sociales y, realmente aprecio los buenos comentarios y la retroalimentación tan positiva que me dieron. Fue un esfuerzo impresionante el preparar esa sesión de fotos y estoy muy contento del impacto que tuvo en ustedes mis lectores; es mi más grande compromiso el traerles siempre contenido de la mejor calidad y el ver una respuesta tan positiva literalmente significa el mundo para mí. Ahora, sin más preámbulo, continuemos con el post del día de hoy. Una semana más se nos ha ido y con esto entramos de lleno a la temporada de primavera aquí en el Pacífico Noroeste. Es una época del año preciosa, con los árboles vistiéndose de verde follaje una vez más, las flores brotando al por mayor como si no hubiera mañana y, por supuesto, más tardes de sol y días cálidos. Y se ha vuelto ya una tradición aquí en el blog inaugurar la llegada de la primavera con una visita a los hermosos árboles de cerezas en la Universidad de Washington. El invierno este año postergó nuestro viaje un par de semanas, pero estoy muy feliz de finalmente presentarles este post tan especial y ya tradicional.

Mi mejor amiga blogger Kim y yo llevamos haciendo esta sesión de fotos por 3 años consecutivos, y esta vez, tuvimos la dicha de contar con la compañía de Kasey. Kasey es la mejor amiga de Kim, las dos estudiaron en la UW ciencias computacionales/ingeniería en electrónica y es ahí donde se conocieron. Hoy en día, Kasey es una rockstar en todo el sentido de la palabra. No sólo es una increíble ingeniera de software en Microsoft, sino también es maestra de computación de medio tiempo Y un gran ícono de la moda. Ella tiene su propio blog en donde habla sobre la educación en el área de tecnología, al cual les recomiendo le den una leída, y en su propia cuenta de Instagram ella muestra su pasión por la ropa vintage y los años de antaño en su fotografía. Es por eso que cuando Kim me dijo que Kasey vendría con nosotros a ver los árboles de cereza me emocioné bastante y, tomé esa pasión por la ropa vintage como una inspiración para mi propio outfit.

Aquí me pueden ver vistiendo una combinación inspirada en los años de 1930 consistiendo de tres piezas principales. Los chinos en color café son de All-Saints junto con un saco color gris oscuro de Pull and Bear y una camisa blanca de manga larga. Esta camisa es muy especial ya que es una camisa vintage mexicana que conseguí en la tienda de la Fonart en la Ciudad de México, y que fue hecha con tela artesanal. Para poder verme bien con o sin el saco, agregué un par de tirantes de J. Crew y una boina gris de H&M. Quería verme ligeramente como una mezcla entre Sebastian, el personaje de Ryan Gosling en La La Land, y Jack Kelly, el protagonista del musical Newsies. Creo que el atuendo quedó muy ad hoc al vestido vintage en color menta y el saquito corto que vestía Kasey y, también complementó en gran medida al look más rockero de Kim, que consistió en una blusa corta blanca con una falda y una chaqueta de mezclilla. ¿Qué opinan ustedes? ¿Sienten que sí le dimos en el clavo con el look inspirado en los años de 1930-1940? Quisiera agradecerle a Kim y a Kasey por pasar una estupenda mañana conmigo y por tomar estas fotografías. ¡Se ven hermosas en ellas y los botones de los árboles de cereza también se ven increíbles!

Eso va a ser todo por hoy amigos. Espero que les haya gustado este post y les aseguro que pueden esperar muchas sorpresas más con Kim y Kasey próximamente. Este fin de semana, estaré viajando al sur de California para una tradición mía más, el festival de música de Coachella. Estoy muy emocionado por las bandas de este año (sólo para mencionar algunas veré a Radiohead, Bastille, Tove Lo, Lorde, ¡Lady Gaga! entre otras) así que estoy seguro de que me la pasaré muy bien. Además, un poco de calor extra y algo de sol me harán muy bien después de este lúgubre mes de marzo. Luego a finales de abril estaré de viaje una vez más, pero en esta ocasión será a mi ciudad natal de Monterrey para ver a mi familia y amigos y hacer un tour del vino en familia. Después de lo que experimenté el año pasado en el valle de Napa estoy muy contento por hacer un tour del vino ahora en el norte de México y, por supuesto, pueden esperar muchas fotos de Coachella y de México aquí en el blog y en redes sociales. Los dejo por ahora, no sin antes recordarles que se vistan con estilo y que dejen que los demás escuchen su voz. ¡Nos vemos en dos semanas!
