His & Hers (Vintage Holidays)

Hello my readers! Merry Xmas! I’m super happy to be writing you from my hometown Monterrey, Mexico at the moment since I’ve traveled back home to spend the holidays with my family and friends. Since this is the time of the year of gift exchanges, holiday parties, and Christmas and New Year’s Eve dinners, my blog BFF Kim from HelloKimWin and I decided to bring you a very special collaboration between our blogs dedicated to the holiday break and to Christmas-inspired attire. For this, we decided to wear matching plaid blanket scarves (in which we look really cute), take photos with a bunch of glittery Xmas props, and exchange tiny gifts at the beautiful University of Washington campus. There’s no one else I would have enjoyed making this photo shoot with as much as I did with you Kim; we just bring the best out of each other. And in these golden tones we definitely look super festive and ready for having a vintage holiday celebration.

For this shoot, Kim decided to wear a vintage red plaid house dress with a green plaid blanket scarf. I love how the matching of patterns just works here. The size of the squares and the lines of the dress and the scarf are different enough for it to show more variety in shapes and colors, and Kim looks very cute in this A-line maiden dress with a nice, vintage touch to it. Also worth mentioning are her shoes, which are as sparkly and glittery as our Xmas props. These glitter and suede pumps from Forever 21 have the perfect balance between the sobriety of black suede and the festiveness of glitter. I can’t believe how well everything Forever 21 looks on Kim, girl you should become their official model! Overall this look was a 10 out of 10 for me. It kind of reminds me of a Southern girl, housewife-ish style but with a punch, and I love the layering of the scarf worn as a poncho over the dress, provides a lot of volume and dimension. As of my look, I decided to also mix patterns between my plaid blanket scarf and this cozy, golden sweater my family gave me a few Christmases ago from United Colors of Benetton. Once again the prints are different enough not to be overwhelming, and the rhombus pattern just exudes a very vintage vibe. I paired it with these brown, velvet pants which are not that easy to pull off; velvet can be very tricky to wear, especially depending on the color you pair it with. I went with browns and yellows to give a more natural fall feeling to it, kind of like the leaves of a tree. Over the sweater I wore a navy blue peacoat I bought during Black Friday this year, and voilà, the vintage look was completed. I really like the movement of this outfit, both the peacoat and the blanket scarf provide this feeling of looseness which I really like. What do you think? With this I say goodbye for now. Finally, I just want to reflect a little bit on the importance of this time of the year for me. Yes, it’s a good opportunity to give gifts to each other and to dress very fancy clothes and to eat delicious food, but the most important is that it is a time when we can cherish the people we love and tell them how much they mean to us. Both our family and friends are the most valuable thing we possess, and whatever our beliefs are we should be grateful that we can spend some time with each other, whether it’s Christmas we celebrate or not. We’re about to start a new page in our lives, so it’s also a good chance to let bygones be bygones, put regret and sorrow aside, and start planning a new version of ourselves with optimism; a time to renovate our lives and the ones of those around us. I wish you all a merry Christmas, and I hope we can all find happiness and peace in the very little things that matter the most. Happy Holidays!

¡Hola mis lectores! ¡Feliz navidad! Estoy felizmente escribiéndoles desde mi ciudad natal Monterrey, México en este momento ya que viajé de regreso a casa para pasar las fiestas decembrinas con mis familiares y amigos. Ya que esta es la época del año para intercambiar regalos, ir a las posadas y a la cena de Navidad y Año Nuevo, mi mejor amiga blogger Kim de HelloKimWin y yo hemos decidido traerles una colaboración muy especial entre nuestros blogs dedicada a las fiestas navideñas y a la ropa de la temporada. Para ello, decidimos utilizar bufandas que combinaran (en las que nos vemos muy adorables), tomar fotos con decoración navideña con diamantina e intercambiar pequeños regalos en el hermoso campus de la Universidad de Washington. No hay nadie más con quien me hubiera gustado hacer este post más que contigo Kim; simplemente sacamos lo mejor uno del otro. Y en estos tonos dorados definitivamente nos vemos muy festivos y listos para tener una celebración navideña vintage.

Para esta sesión, Kim utilizó un vestido rojo de cuadritos casero vintage con una bufanda también de cuadritos color verde. Me encanta como la combinación de patrones funciona perfectamente aquí. El tamaño de los cuadros y de las líneas del vestido y de la bufanda son suficientemente distintos para mostrar un poco más de variedad en las formas y los colores, y Kim se ve muy guapa en este vestido en forma A con un toque antiguo. También cabe recalcar que los zapatos de Kim son tan brillantes y destellantes como nuestra decoración navideña. Estos zapatos de gamuza negra con diamantina en la suela de Forever 21 tienen el balance perfecto entre la sobriedad de la gamuza con la festividad de la brillantina. No puedo creer lo bien que le queda a Kim todo lo que venden en Forever 21, ¡deberías de convertirte en su modelo oficial! En general este look para mí fue un 10 de 10. Me recuerda a una chica sureña, con un estilo de ama de casa pero con un poco de actitud, y me encanta como acomodó en capas la bufanda estilo poncho sobre el vestido, provee de mucho volumen y dimensión. ¿Aprueban este look para la temporada de Navidad? Kim fue lo suficientemente linda para mandarme los links a estos artículos, así que si les gustó alguno tengan la libertad de echarles el ojo.

Para mi atuendo, también decidí mezclar patrones entre la bufanda de cuadritos y este suéter acogedor color dorado que mi familia me regaló hace algunas navidades de United Colores of Benetton. Una vez más, los estampados son lo suficientemente dispares para no ser demasiado llamativos, y el patrón de rombos tiene una vibra bastante vintage en mi opinión. Combiné estos con un par de pantalones de terciopelo cafés que no son tan fáciles de combinar; el terciopelo tiene sus consideraciones al vestirse, especialmente dependiendo del color con el que lo emparejas. Me fui con amarillos y cafés para dar un sentimiento un poco más otoñal, así como las hojas en los árboles. Sobre el suéter me puse un abrigo azul marino que compré en Black Friday este año y listo, terminé el look vintage. Realmente me gusta el sentimiento de movimiento que provee este atuendo, tanto del abrigo como de la bufanda que se sienten un poco holgados. ¿Qué opinan? Con esto me despido, no sin antes reflexionar un poquito sobre la importancia que esta época del año tiene para mí. Sí, es una oportunidad muy buena para darnos regalos los unos a los otros y vestirnos con ropa elegante y comer mucha comida muy deliciosa, pero lo más importante es que es una época en la que podemos disfrutar de la compañía de la gente que amamos y en que podemos decirles cuánto significan para nosotros. Tanto nuestras familias como nuestros amigos son lo más valioso que poseemos, y sean cuáles sean nuestras creencias debemos sentirnos agradecidos de poder pasar un tiempo con ellos, sea navidad lo que estemos celebrando o no. Estamos por comenzar una nueva página en nuestras vidas, así que es buen momento para dejar los problemas atrás, poner a un lado la culpa y el arrepentimiento, y empezar a planear una nueva versión de nosotros mismos con optimismo; es un tiempo para renovar nuestras vidas y las de aquellos que nos rodean. Les deseo a todos una muy feliz navidad y espero que todos podamos encontrar la felicidad y la paz en las pequeñas cosas que significan más para nosotros. ¡Felices fiestas a todos!
